Robert Kraft, Why Are There Prostitutes In The Bible?

https://nypost.com/2019/04/21/why-bob-krafts-ordeal-should-alarm-us-all/

The NY Post is not my usual sort of source, however, in this case, they might be the only one that will touch this sort of story.

Clearly the MSM elite desires Robert Kraft to be crucified -- He has remained friendly to Trump just because Trump was kind to him when his wife died. That kind of "misplaced loyalty"  is naturally something that needs to be purged from society! Thou shalt be loyal ONLY to "The Party" (D) and the elites which it serves!

So Kraft appears to have been paying for sex -- and apparently NOT paying for sex from some sort of "sex slaves" as we have been told. In these days of complete lack of "prudishness" relative to sexual urges in the case of out of wedlock sex (unless the person is a Republican), gay sex, or various confusions on gender, what is the "appropriate attitude" relative to the ancient practice of males paying for sex?

As a Christian, the list of prohibitions relative to sex is quite long, however the Bible is WAY SHORT of being "prudish" in the least. We aren't going to give chapter and verse here, but incest, bestiality, sending your daughters out for gang rape, rape unto death, taking a prostitute as a wife, father and son "sharing" a woman ... all are covered, including some rather beautiful "near porn" in Song of Solomon. "Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which feed among the lilies."

Prostitution is almost certainly the oldest profession, a basic exchange of quid quo pro. Certainly it is a Biblical sin, however it is merely one form of "lust/act", of which there are MANY, given:

1 John 2:15-17 "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever."

The left has declared Biblical sin to be not be sin at all, but in fact to be admired -- consumerism, envy, pride, homosexuality, infant sacrifice to the god of convenience, adultery, etc are all generally to be celebrated as long as they are committed by liberals.

For the left, those who refuse to bow at the altar of "progressivism" (whatever the left declares right TODAY) have  committed their original sin, and are therefore "condemned sinners" -- any act by those so condemned is judged as "filthy rags" -- clearly, including such formerly natural acts as seeking sexual gratification from a prostitute.

There are prostitutes in the Bible because they are real -- reality is in the Bible. In the universe of "progressivism", reality is exactly what they say it is at any moment, and there is absolutely no requirement for it to be universally applied, or consistent in any manner.

Fauxahontis On "Marriage"

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/warrens-same-sex-marriage-quip-captures-what-some-find-exciting--and-others-distressing--about-her/2019/10/11/f3e15a14-ec34-11e9-85c0-85a098e47b37_story.html?wpisrc=nl_most&wpmm=1

Much like Hillary (irredeemable deploreables), Fauxahontis seems determined to give up the moderate vote in order to cater to the bulk of what the Democrat party has become.

At least she and Beto are being honest ... collect all the guns, drop tax exempt status to organizations that don't bow at the altar of gay "marriage" (soon / currently? to be any combination of 57 "genders")  ... and then? Well "progress" would require the next step because it is ALWAYS moving "forward" ... my guess us legalization of sex with minors. If they are mature enough to change their sex, how can they not be mature enough to consent to sex?

How long before anyone that doesn't follow their agenda must be "re-educated"?

Gays For Biology

http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2019/02/andrew-sullivan-the-nature-of-sex.html

The level of confusion engendered by the insistence that gayness is immutable and gender is fluid is impossible to overstate. The linked article really just expands on the confusion.

If this sounds like a massive overreach, consider the fact that the proposed Equality Act — with 201 co-sponsors in the last Congress — isn’t simply a ban on discriminating against trans people in employment, housing, and public accommodations (an idea with a lot of support in the American public). It includes and rests upon a critical redefinition of what is known as “sex.” We usually think of this as simply male or female, on biological grounds (as opposed to a more cultural notion of gender). But the Equality Act would define “sex” as including “gender identity,” and defines “gender identity” thus: “gender-related identity, appearance, mannerisms, or characteristics, regardless of the individual’s designated sex at birth.”
Under the sought after definition, apparently "sex" as in Male or Female would essentially cease to exist -- "nature" as in what sexual parts you happen to have is not a factor. It is ALL about how you "identify".  Needless to say, this offends homosexuals -- they are really attached to immutably being attracted to their own biological sex!

So, here we see a gay man defending biology.

The Leftist Media Drumbeat

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2019/10/the-media-factor.php

Just a better than average example of how the leftist media acts as full time unpaid Democrat propaganda. When people talk about "getting big money out of politics", what they are really advocating is total surrender to the left.

They already have the bulk of the media, the universities, and the administrative state.

The Mueller debacle showed us that Democrats and their allies the Deep State worked to interfere with the 2016 election, and then -- starting with the day after the election, have ceaselessly worked to overturn it.

Naturally, any investigation of their activities is at least impeachable in their eyes, and extremism in the defense of leftism is to duty of all non deplorables!

Trump Turns Down Mud Wrestling Invite

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2019/10/trump-refuses-to-participate-in-impeachment-farce.php

Good summary if the "impeachment" version of the witch hunt (the sequel to Russiagate). The Ds pushed to have Trump nominated because they were certain that having him as the nominee would be the end of the Republican party. They expected total control of all branches of government in addition to the all powerful Deep State and a soon to be leftist packed SCOTUS. Lefty heaven!

Since they were as sure of this plan as they are of global warming, a semi-conscious person would wonder just a bit how competent they are.

What us clear at this point is that they are not willing to allow the duly elected president to govern unless he is a de-facto Democrat like W!

They may still get to their objective, it is likely only a matter of time. At least some of their cards are more visible now -- Beto made it clear that they WILL collect the guns as soon as they have enough power. If they can get a majority on the SCOTUS, the Electoral College is history, and likely the two senators per state as well -- in which case, why bother with a Senate at all ? ND, SD,WY, MT,NB would maybe get ONE!

America died with the election of BO -- Trump has at least slowed the rotting of the corpse!

A Thousand Small Sanities

https://www.amazon.com/Thousand-Small-Sanities-Adventure-Liberalism/dp/154169936X

I was recommended this book by a friend associated with a small left Lutheran (ELCA) college. I wasn't very far into it before I thought of Bill Buckley's "God and Man at Yale" .. I imagine unsuspecting parents sending youth off to a school that they think is "Christian" only to find them returning as godless atheists worshipping pleasure and self -- the book puts up as "heroic"  adultery, cohabitation, atheism, and homosexuality ... or anything new that comes along that trips their trigger.

I'm a traditional liberal -- certainly people have a right to any manner of idea they want to have, and even to proselytize such beliefs. I just fervently wish that anyone who even marginally maintains any sort of even remotely Christian belief would realize that there is no need to waste time at a supposedly faith based university exposing them to more atheist, relativist, materialist, hedonist, etc views. They get LOTS of that from the general culture!

The title and subtitle tell your this is not in any way an objective book  -- if "liberalism" is "sane", then conservatism must be "insane", and if "liberalism" is "moral" ... (in it's own estimation of course), than those who are not of the "liberal faith" are "immoral".

On page 232 we find: "Liberal tolerance includes tolerance of non-liberals and anti-liberals as long as they accept the rules of pluralism." (as the book clearly states, those are admittedly muddled "rules" that are ever changing, so beware! -- one best stay very current on what is "sane", lest you be declared insane.

Your only defense is to bow at the "liberal" altar de jour -- Trump was fine for the left as long as he was one of their team! Oh, the book is a reaction to Trump, seeded with the standard gratuitous criticisms. In the universe inhabited by this author, the thought that there might be a "sane" other side just as disgusted with Obama would be impossible -- certainly, by definition, those people would be INSANE!

So why were the adulterous lovers Mill and Taylor "moral"? On page 12 we read:" What they were is realists - radicals of the real, determined to live in the world even as they altered it". In simpler terms. the "liberal" form of "morality" ... "If it feels good, do it" -- and as it becomes more "advanced", force others to celebrate the "morality" which you feel.

The main point of the book is that "liberalism" is a forever changing, but always the best "muddle" -- his "aways true/just/factual/moral" and ever "advancing" defense of liberalism reminded me of the movie "The Blob", or very much like "The Borg" on STNG -- you WILL be assimilated!

Reagan said it best: "A liberal will defend your right to agree with them to your dying breath".

So how are we to begin to "know" what the ever changing "liberal rules" are? On page 27 we see: "And that (Montaigne quote) meant we had to base our social behavior on compassion, skepticism, and uncertainty rather than on dogma, justice and utopianism." Got that? -- in short, no fixed rules.

The "compassion" is interesting -- based on the actions of today's "liberals", that means forcing other people to transfer their earnings to the "less fortunate" -- or just less successful relative to the liberal ever evolving standard of "enough", which conveniently is never reached.

"Compassion" and "sympathy" are themes of the book. On page 37, we see of Hume -- "He saw, and showed the sharp limits of reason--and the power of sympathy, rather than either reason or faith, to make humankind one".  Later on that page, "Sympathy lets us turn ideas into emotion".

On page 39 we see why Hume is especially dear to the author -- "have little patience only till I have the pleasure of seeing the churches shut up, and the clergy sent about their business".

"Sympathy" for me, but not for thee.

On page 51, we see the attempted cleavage of "liberals" from "left activism" (although the "heroes" of the author are the radicals) -- so allowing freedom of speech by purchasing ads, and the electoral college are declared "not worth saving" by the hard left, the authors unicorn "liberals" think it is acceptable to "get there slowly" ... but nevertheless, inevitably!

Page 72, "Where conservatives believe in the renewal of traditional community, liberals believe in the flight from family and tradition into new kinds of communal order" ... a Montaigne type skeptic might ask, "and how is that working out?" We see rising suicide rates, declining lifespans, addiction, hopelessness and mass shootings, all of which were declining or non-existent under tired old Christian culture as late as "1960".

On page 238, "Liberalism isn't a political theory applied to life. It's what we know about life applied to political theory." Nice claim, however given the previous discussion of page 72, is that a truthful claim? Eric Fromm says in "The Sane Society":
"We find then that the countries in Europe which are among the most democratic, peaceful and prosperous ones, and the United States, the most prosperous country in the world, show the most severe symptoms of mental disturbance."
And this was in 1956! Fromm for one would say that we "know" very little about "life". Wikipedia says: There is currently no consensus regarding the definition of life. One popular definition is that organisms that maintain homeostasis are composed of cells, have a life cycle, metabolism, can grow, adapt to their environment, respond to stimuli, reproduce, and evolve. However, several other definitions have been proposed, and there are some borderline cases of life, such as viruses or viroids.
Given that, how can one claim to "know about life"? I'd assume, in the same way as pretty much all "liberalism" posits, it is "whatever the most "powerful" (most votes, most scientists polled, etc) think, or even feel it is -- and thus "know".

Page 81, we see a core of the liberal faith -- "These values are rooted in a simple idea about human capacity - a moral idea about the source of meaning in the human imagination. This just means that people make up their values, they aren't handed down from the past or on high. This humanist ideal is what inspects and animates liberalism with moral energy."

Translation -- man makes it up his own morality as he goes along, and he declares it to be "very good". Niche figured this out long ago -- God is dead, so might is right.

From 184-190, Gopnik goes from the Mill definition of free speech. -- "unless the speaker is actually ready to cut your throat, you have to let him work his jaw". To applauding a Canadian court ruling preventing a Christian from passing out pamphlets critical of homosexuality, to saying that while "suppression of free speech on campus is alarming to "liberals"", to "real though the problem of civil liberties on campuses might be, it is infinitely less concerning than the power of corporate speech or the daily presence of hate speech from the highest source of power directed against threatened groups".

My "highest source of power is God". The Bible says; "If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them." ... or Rom 1:22-32. Both God and Nature abhor homosexuality (it isn't adaptive ... doesn't reproduce, the holy grail of evolution).

So clearly, although I'm sure he meant Trump, and recognizes not at all my higher power, Gopnik would seem required to see the Bible as "hate speech" -- and the definition of what "hate speech" would be whatever he sees "liberal" orthodoxy saying it is at this "advanced time". (stay tuned ... no doubt it will "advance")

I love his heartfelt defense of one of his huge heroes, Red Emma Goldman, on page 160; "Throughout her life she never compromised either the purity of her anarchist, sensualist and libertarian principles in the face of left-wing totalitarianism". So much for the "reality based" theme of supposed "liberalism" -- what it really means is "my view wins" ... always, no matter what it actually turns out to result in.

p 319, "But few ideas could be more fatuous than that secular ideals are really just as religious as religious ideals.". hmm other than the idea that "religion" is what you hold to be the highest value, and secularism holds itself to be "the highest value". Or maybe he just doesn't understand the definition of "fatuous"?

And on what basis would that statement have merit? Well, the same basis as all metaphysical claims -- "belief". At the base, one either believes that there is some metaphysical standard, or there isn't. If God exists, and he has declared standards for us to follow, then there IS a standard. If not, then NO STANDARDS beyond might is right! For a more complete discussion of what is "fatuous".

There has been a lot of ink wasted on trying to "prove" the "liberal / progressive / humanist" faith (of any given moment -- it's "strong point" is it's constant "evolution". What used to be Western civilization was based on Christianity. The fervent hope of the left was that you can just pull the foundation of Christianity out from under it and things would still be fine. (so why don't they look "fine"?)

Nietzsche covered this topic very well -- and seeing this shallow book being proffered for review by impressionable youth with little comprehension of the depth of the danger, it is good to be living deep in fly over country!

Branding -- Whistleblower Vs Leaker

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2019/09/was-the-whistleblower-part-of-a-plan.php

The branding is so obvious as to be funny. Information illegally made public about a Republican? "Whistleblower" ... often "courageous whistleblower"!

Information illegally made public about a Democrat? LEAK! Often "criminal leak" very possibly treasonous!

Just as "Russiagate" turned out to be nothing, "Ukrainegate" is the same -- but of course that doesn't matter. The purpose is to deny Trump re-election by any means possible.

The purpose of the multiple “inquiries” through which we are about to suffer is not, of course, to learn anything about events in Ukraine. It is, rather, to generate as many headlines as possible from friendly newspapers (i.e., all of them) that pair the words “Trump” and “impeachment.” If the Steele dossier couldn’t stop Trump from being elected in 2016, the Democrats are hopeful that the equally baseless Ukraine complaint will prevent him from being re-elected in 2020.

Ukraine Transcript

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2019/09/the-ukraine-transcript-not-damning-and-not-as-advertised.php

Ho hum ...  he asked the Ukraine president to ask his people to cooperate with the US justice department.

Well, that is the view from the "moderate right". How about the "as moderate as the left gets" ...

Naturally, they don't mention exactly WHAT is "impeachable" ... I think we already know that! Being a Republican, a Christian, not worshiping at the Climate Change altar ... all are both deplorable and impeachable.

I love the mention of CLINTON'S "balanced budget" ... he did sign the budgets, and the Republican congress that actually balanced the budgets got no credit at all.

So now we have TWO parties that don't care about a balanced budget! I really don't think that much of anyone outside of the press when a Republican is in office actually cares -- Oh, and a press that apparently does not know who it is that does appropriations ... hint, "Congress Shall Appropriate"!

The WaPo does keep some irredeemables on staff ... one can only hope!

Democrat Takeover Strategy

https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/09/brett-kavanaugh-accusations-democratic-strategy/?sfns=mo&utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=continetti&utm_content=kavanaugh

The SCOTUS is the last backstop to prevent a possible return to Constitutional government if Trump is re-elected. The Democrats love to have strategies to de-legitimize any sort of conservative move to weaken the Deep State and follow the Constitution. (see "Russiagate", "impeachment", etc)

The Kavanaugh controversy is not, as one reporter for the Washington Post described it, a “journalistic mishap.” It is a case of Democratic activists and lawmakers using journalists precisely as intended: as instruments of a political agenda. Democrats are much more aware than Republicans that the very survival of their party depends on the maintenance of the “living Constitution,” as opposed to the Constitution as written and subsequently amended. The courts have been the Democrats’ backstop. If Donald Trump transforms them, liberals would have to reckon with the voting public. Things could get ugly.
Well, "ugly" for the left, the Deep State, and continuation of totalitarian control by "The Party" ... Dems, media, Deep State, universities, elites, etc.

Clinton News Network Becomes FNN

https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/09/cnn-trump-derangement-everything-but-news/?sfns=mo

When Slick Willie was in office I renamed CNN (Cable News Network) to Clinton News Network --- It's now clearly the FAKE News Network. It's one thing to be totally tilted in one direction about what stories you decide to report.

Making things up in a vendetta against a president you happen not to like is crossing into a whole other level of disservice!

CNN has now lost so much of its prior viewership and its reputation for global reportage that it would be wise for the network to shut down, fire its entire management and most of its journalists, and reboot in a year or so with an entirely new name, team, and a code of ethics.
Isn't "cable" a bit outdated anyway?

Always Certain, Frequently Wrong

https://cei.org/blog/wrong-again-50-years-failed-eco-pocalyptic-predictions?sfns=mo#.XYN9tOCh7wA.facebook

The linked article goes through a long list of certain predictions that turned out to be wrong -- worth a scan for perspective.

My conversion to being a skeptic in pretty much everything  began with the Carter "malaise" speech. It is worth going back and reading it -- who would have thought that the main problem was Carter and the Deep State? Reagan came as close to "proving" that was the case as it is possible to do by 1984.
"The threat is nearly invisible in ordinary ways.
It is a crisis of confidence.
It is a crisis that strikes at the very heart and soul and spirit of our national will. We can see this crisis in the growing doubt about the meaning of our own lives and in the loss of a unity of purpose for our nation.
The erosion of our confidence in the future is threatening to destroy the social and the political fabric of America."
It's interesting to note that Carter, then a practicing Southern Baptist, came close, but only sideways mentioned the cause of the "loss of confidence".
In closing, let me say this: I will do my best, but I will not do it alone. Let your voice be heard. Whenever you have a chance, say something good about our country. With God’s help and for the sake of our nation, it is time for us to join hands in America. Let us commit ourselves together to a rebirth of the American spirit. Working together with our common faith we cannot fail.
Today, Carter has left the Biblical faith ... you know, the kind of faith that believes the Bible. Carter feels it needs to be "updated" ... and interestingly, since his famous speech, more and more people have left Christianity because it is not "accommodating" enough. In the words of Christ ...
John 14:6 Jesus said unto him, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.
"Faith" means you need to BELIEVE in something that is transcendent (not scientifically "provable") The time tested and extremely successful up to the late 20th century belief was Christianity. America was founded on the totally unproven belief that there were unalienable rights given by a sovereign God -- and up until the mid 20th century, we were held together by that common belief.

Lose your faith in the transcendent, and you are just a meaningless cosmic accident -- and "malaise" is virtually guaranteed. Just look at the rising depression and suicide statistics in the unlikely case that you don't have personal experience with yourself or loved ones.

We are natural believers -- and we WILL believe in something. We have to fill that hole with SOMETHING, and today one of the attempts is "Climate Change" ... which, like all idolatry, is a complete failure. You can "believe" that "saving the planet" is your "mission", but of course it isn't "personal" in the least, and it doesn't "save" YOU at all!

Ironically, in order to accept the climate change faith, you have to give up reason -- just as you always have to do to some extent to accept any faith. Either we have been created by a loving God with a built in need to seek his divine solution to that existential need in the person of Jesus Christ, or, a random universe has randomly put this unquenchable lust for faith in our hearts by pure accident.

You have a choice! Oh, and if you refuse to believe that climate change is not "proven", consider this.

Outside of mathematics, certainty is metaphysical -- so the "experts" that are "certain" are very frequently wrong. -

Raising Hell

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12280528-raising-hell

It took a bit after I was challenged to read this book to get back to a book that I HIGHLY recommend for anyone that is truthfully seeking the eternal historical God of the Bible and salvation in Christ "The Reason For God".

Here is my review of that book.

What Keller does, and I have a HARD time doing is to RESPECTFULLY answer common objections to Christianity. Chapter 5 is devoted to answering the objections to Hell. Essentially they all boil down to rejecting the sovereignty of God. Julie is a classic modern "liberal" -- her god is individuality (Julie), so SHE can judge ANYTHING -- including God, historical scholarship. etc.. The book would be better titled "Razing Christianity" ... with the definition of Christianity being  people who can truthfully confess the Creeds  ...  Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant Christians all confess the creeds of the first thousand+ years of church history. (eg the Apostle’s, Nicene, and Athanasian creeds. Being able to truly confess these creeds is what it means to be Christian, and has been so for over a thousand years.

The the Athanasian Creed begins:
"Whosoever will be saved, before all things it is necessary that he hold the catholic (universal)  faith. Which faith unless everyone do keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he shall perish everlastingly."
The faith of this book is totally opposed to Christianity. The entry to Christianity is Holy Baptism, the practice is joining in confession of the creeds, Holy Communion and Holy Preaching with fellow Christians. Julie rejects that, so whatever she is, she is not a confessional Christian.
"There came a time when I left the faith. This was not because of what I learned through historical criticisms, but because I could no longer reconcile my faith in God with the state of the world that I saw all around me. There is so much senseless pain and misery in the world that I came to find it impossible to believe there is a good and loving God who is in control, despite my knowing all the standard rejoinders that people give.[21] I believe mainly what Bart is getting at is that, in light of most people “going to hell,” their suffering in this world makes no sense."
When you reject the faith, it indeed makes "no sense" (1 Cor 1:22-24) "

"Jews demand signs and Greeks search for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews foolishness to Gentiles, 24but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God."

The people who might really enjoy this book are those who have been damaged by Pharisaic "works based" and overly Hell focused (vs Grace focused)  church experiences and are desperate for a god of their own desires.  Atheists might like it if they are still just "hoping" there is no god, rather than completely convinced of his nonexistence.

Although we certainly live in a universe with consequences (ever have a hangover?), projecting a metaphysical afterlife with no consequences might be "comforting"  to some (sorta like heroin).

Unless you have firmly made up your mind that Orthodox Christianity is completely wrong, Jesus doesn't matter (nothing to be "saved" from), and "history is bunk", JUST STAY AWAY! RUN! Don't walk!

I've commented extensively on Goodreads -- go there for more detail.

No matter how far you have strayed from the Christian faith, as long as you draw breath, Grace can be yours!

The Left On Civility-- "I'm Glad He's Dead"

https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/celebrities/2019/08/24/david-koch-bill-maher-rejoices-billionaire-businessmans-death/2107572001/

A sterling example  ...

1619 Project: Reviving King Cotton Myth

https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/08/1619-project-new-york-times-king-cotton-thesis/?sfns=xmwa

Yet another case of ideology poorly disguised as history.

Like the original “King Cotton” thesis, the NHC suffers from its own ideological disposition. Though one sought to prop up slavery in its own day and the other condemns it historically, both build their evidence by working backward from the preexisting conclusion of its economic vitality. Both then advance the simply false assertion that this economic vitality was the driving engine of the antebellum economy.

The thrust of these exaggerations is to recast slavery as a distinctly capitalistic enterprise, which, in turn, services the 1619 Project’s political message.

Meaninglessness Has Consequences

https://quillette.com/2019/08/07/the-deadly-boredom-of-a-meaningless-life/?sfns=xmwa

In a godless world, the meaning substitutes are plentiful ... substances, sex, media, games, etc, etc. They all share the common characteristic that they don't work -- thus suicide, mass shootings, loss of civility, tribalism, etc.

The linked is is a good source for pointing all this out -- with links to some books that I will be reading.

Reaping What We've Sown

https://www.dailywire.com/news/50323/trump-calls-out-nyt-changing-headline-after-james-barrett?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=benshapiro

The founder of the NY Times used the slogan "News without fear or favor".

Since the Times withdrew the headline "Trump Urges Unity vs Racism" and replaced it with "Assailing Hate But Not Guns", it seems that it very clear that the NY Times mostly prints leftist "news".

I listened to NPR for about 6 hours on Wednesday. If that was your "news", you would likely be completely convinced that Trump essentially pulled the trigger in the El Paso shooting, and be nearly unaware of the Dayton shooter ... let alone his leftward political leanings covered here,

The idea that the El Paso shooter was somehow a Trump supporter is even questionable -- his "Manifesto" sounds more like the Unabomber.

The US mainstream media has been all about marginalizing people with any views that didn't fully align with the elite orthodoxy of Political Correctness dejour for a long time.  Reagan was maligned as racist, warmonger, sexist, etc., and the beat has just got more strident.

The difference is that the right now has an equally strident voice in Trump, and since he has a Twitter account, he is harder for them to silence -- though not impossible, (see Jeffrey Epstein)

We are now blessed with strident voices from both left and right, which would indeed be a blessing if we realized that listening to only one side will do nothing but create hatred and violence. We need ALL sides! We need to hear and understand all sides of issues!

Proverbs 19:20-21 New International Version (NIV)

20 Listen to advice and accept discipline,
and at the end you will be counted among the wise.

We removed God from our culture, we removed respect for life with Roe, and increasingly we are told that life has no meaning beyond getting what we each individually desire.

The wages of sin have always been death -- often young, violent, and very lonely. This has been known since Romans 6:23 -- sadly, we are increasingly reminded of this truth.

Biden Swamp Wealth

https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2019/08/02/joe-biden-investigation-hunter-brother-hedge-fund-money-2020-campaign-227407

The Clintons are just one of the most egregious examples of swamp enrichment at taxpayer expense -- but the swamp want's to "investigate" the tax returns of the billionaire that wins the presidency. Meanwhile, 100's of avowed "penniless" or "middle class" politicians become multi-millionaires either during or shortly after their stint as "public servants" ... see Sanders, Pelosi, etc,

Word is that BO is likely to become the first BILLIONAIRE ex president ... and he became president with like a paltry million!

BUT TRUMP!

Interest Rates "Gamble"

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/as-it-faces-pressure-from-trump-and-investors-the-fed-prepares-to-take-its-biggest-gamble-in-years/2019/07/28/38edfc52-af22-11e9-a0c9-6d2d7818f3da_story.html?utm_term=.5acc7777ba39

Further proof that Trump changes EVERYTHING! The WaPo complains about potential lower interest rates! Pretty easy to understand the WaPo "concern", when even they admit that the economy is good -- they obviously don't want it to continue to be good in 2020 since a good economy will help re-elect Trump.

I'm not going to go searching for any negative thoughts they had about the rate being at a historical low of .25% under BO! https://www.thebalance.com/fed-funds-rate-history-highs-lows-3306135

Mueller Fizzles

https://www.newyorker.com/news/our-columnists/why-the-mueller-hearings-were-so-alarming?utm_social-type=owned&mbid=social_facebook&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_brand=tny&fbclid=IwAR0pyF6T_aOdNA2_Bb9fYhK8YEn3EyXq-KQn2VqCObuf79mKCTORNbarC0o&sfns=xmwa

Has Mueller changed his title to "lifetime Republican"? One wonders if the Deep State doesn't require a couple RINOs for "diversity"? I mean if you are using the FBI to do opposition research on candidates, it is nice to at least CLAIM that they at least once were supposed members of that deplorable party !

If you get your "news" from the New Yorker and actually believe it, then clearly you are worried.

Democrats ALWAYS treat witnesses with an actual  conservative bent SO nicely!

Oh, a touching age based defense ... I remember they NEVER tried to make Reagan out as senile!

If one is results oriented vs ideology oriented, the choice if governing philosophy would be obvious. All it takes for leftist philosophy to be seen as "successful" is to kill all the opposition ... see USSR, China, N Korea, etc.

The Conservative Sensibility, George Will

https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/a-defense-of-conservatism-that-veers-toward-liberalism/2019/06/21/b6467a36-8d3e-11e9-adf3-f70f78c156e8_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.b981243bf2e6

I enjoyed this book because I'm an iconoclastic tweak with a pseudo intellectual bent. I nearly worshipped WF Buckley, and must confess oft felt envy of his intellect, erudition, and elite station in life. At times I had similar thoughts of Will.

As I've aged and life has shown me more and more that "elite" in this mortal coil is eternally problematic, my objective has moved to being a disciple of Jesus Christ -- so pride in anything but Christ is at best counterproductive if not eternally fatal.

The biggest message of this book for me is that when you don't believe that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, you will quickly find new gods. For Will, his gods are the American Founders. His bible, the Constitution. I completely agree that the founders are admirable, and the nation returning to following the Constitution is likely imperative if further slippage into tyranny is to be avoided.

The book tries to make the case that this can be done in a secular and rational manner ... yet as he harkens back to the founders, what he seems to admire most is their creation of a REPUBLIC that LIMITED government.  He makes a good case that the "egg" of that creation has been thoroughly  scrambled by progressivism ... he clearly wishes to see it unscrambled. however unscrambling an egg is a task not likely to be accomlished by even the most fervent of wishes.

I highly recommend the Deneen review. Rather than reading this book, read "Why Liberalism Failed"!

Limits For The Administrative State?

https://www.newyorker.com/news/our-columnists/the-supreme-court-is-one-vote-away-from-changing-how-the-us-is-governed?fbclid=IwAR17ngi2HcjrJkCMzh-ndabffxNz5qj3lddPYZuVSoUp72vpvZrNOVDxGIk

We are now explicitly on notice that the Court will likely abandon its longstanding tolerance of Congress delegating broadly to agencies. What’s at stake is the potential upending of the constitutional foundations of the so-called “administrative state.” Today’s reality is that agencies, not Congress, make most federal laws. As Justice Kagan put it, if the delegation in Gundy were unconstitutional, “then most of Government is unconstitutional.”
I happen to be reading George Will's excellent "The Conservative Sensibility" which is a fairly lengthy (but worth it) explanation  of how we got from Article 1, Section 1 of the Constitution --  "All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives." ...  to today's sorry condition where we have government by an unlimited and unlawful Administrative State.

As my old blog often covered, the simple answer is "Progressivism" (which I refer to as "regressivism"). Our founders invented the completely new idea of LIMITED government and vouchsafed it via the mechanism of Separation of Powers locked in place by a hard to change Constitution. Starting in 1900, the regressives, decided to remove the limits and go back to the very OLD idea of UNlimited government via the also very old mechanism of breaking the law (the Constitution).

There is no such thing as an "easy fix", but a way to at least have a hope to START on the PAINFUL path of getting back to limited government would be getting that one more SCOTUS vote.

Jimmuh Declares Water Wet --- Moose Doubts

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/06/28/jimmy-carter-russia-investigation-trump-lost-1387634

Why does the MSM still publish what Jimmuh says? Oh, I know -- it casts doubt on Trump in their minds -- and some flat earthers.

If Jimmuh declares water wet, I will certainly have my doubts about the truth of that statement.

I think he needs to consult Amuh ... or go find a wise bunny ... possibly a swimming attack bunny!

BO Messiah

For once I agree with Psychology Today ,,, https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/mind-in-the-machine/201905/the-belief-trump-is-messiah-is-rampant-and-dangerous?fbclid=IwAR26Oo8vkcPVfGiO08rMu9xnCkuiBRz_B0YiZf3pEUcZYwc_NbmJObuPtsw

Thinking that an earthly leader is a "god" is dangerous! It is even MORE DANGEROUS when significant portions of the elite / media hold that belief.

Here is a very incomplete listing of the MSM and much of the left hailing BO as "the messiah". Interesting imagery since most of them claim that that there is no god ...

Naturally, none of them had any concern about BO being mistaken for a "god".

I think one has to dig pretty hard to find someone seriously thinking Trump is godlike!

The Racist Republican, "Southern Strategy" Myth

https://www.nationalreview.com/2012/05/party-civil-rights-kevin-d-williamson/?fbclid=IwAR0srOEhfl160YxmIYXOyF844CwQCd2O_TMXAg0NrluwWYl3laGcDWSumx0

Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) have worked hard to paint Republicans as racists. For anyone with even a tiny bit of understanding of history, this is laughable. It could well be listed as the very definition of chutzpah! The Democrats WERE the South, fighting to maintain slavery. They presided over Jim Crow, the state sponsored subjugation of Blacks for 100 years in the South, and finally, voted against every single attempt to remove the oppression of Jim Crow in the late 50's and '60s.

When these facts are pointed out, they scream "Nixon's Southern Strategy"! This article exposes that as just another pedestrian leftist lie.

We can go to that "civil rights champion" LBJ to at least understand the Democrat Southern Strategy!

Different Democrats

At least some of the "somewhat aged" Democrats are not aware that "this is not the party of your dad ... or maybe even you when you were in college". You may think it is "your team", but is it really?

I know that young people are often idealistic and attracted to anything that seems like a fight against injustice. But progressives today are riding roughshod over much of what liberalism once stood for. I hope that old 1960s liberals like me will stand firm, not be shamed into silence, and call out those who challenge our core values, whether from the left or the right.

The Fruits of Amorality

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/tanyachen/teens-kill-friend-catfish-murder-footage-alaska-anchorage

Newton's third law tells us that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Programmers and engineers know that for every "fix" or "engineering change", is very likely that there will be "side effects". Military ops often have "collateral damage" . Drugs have "adverse reactions" (side effects) and "interactions".

When you mess with any system, it is nearly certain that you will have some sort of side effect, and it will often be negative -- and quite often VERY negative.

So ... We have drastically reduced the teaching of any morality outside of "follow your own desires", "tradition is immoral / corrupt", "if it feels good, do it".

Are we surprised that there are some effects of this change to the system that are not altogether positive?

Although, as we continue to "progress", what is the rational / scientific reason that we can declare this murder to be "wrong"? It looks like a group of people enjoyed this murder.

Bentham's Utilitarianism would tell us that if more people found pleasure in this killing than found pain, the action was "good".

As we continue to "progress", perhaps a vote of some constituency could be taken to determine the rightness or wrongness ?

Murphy's Law states that "If it can go wrong, it will". It is a VERY unscientific "law", however any experienced technologist will testify to it's truth. Or as Scotty so aptly stated:

Is human culture / society a complex system? If so, is it rational to assume that massive changes made with little thought beyond "we want to be free (even applauded) to do anything we want to do"!, is nearly certain to have negative (catastrophic?) side effects.

Do you perceive any? If you do, perhaps the faith that massive change is always for the better is worthy of some scrutiny,

AGW, Closing Barn Door After Cow Is Out

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2019/06/another-pane-of-glass.php

A lot of our world today is well defined by the Wizard Of Oz "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain". If you do happen to point him out, you are a denier, crazy, or something. You are to believe that the emporer of AGW is "clothed"(real), and if you point out that is a naked lie, you are to be duly punished.

The following is a bit technical, but the meaning is simple -- how much the earth can be warmed by solar input is limited by physics,

Politifact, Trump, Animal

https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2019/apr/08/tweets/tweet-leaves-out-context-donald-trumps-animals-rem/

My hat is off to Politifact, the normally quite left wing biased "fact checker" that decided to come clean on this one.

Democrats suddenly started throwing out the claim that "Trump called immigrants animals" and it spread like wildfire in social and other media.

The real story. In a meeting in May of 2018, Trump said the members of the gang MSi13 gang, whose motto is "Rape, Control, Kill" are animals.

I grew up in the age of evolution, and AFAIK, that is still the standard educational system doctrine. Bottom line, human beings are a form of animal, the universe and everything in it is a completely random meaningless happening, and "morals" are purely a matter of "might is right".

At the moment I happen to be reading "Good Natured: The Origins of Right and Wrong in Humans and Other Animals" which clearly says right in the title that humans = animal. As a Christian, I certainly find that dangerous and insulting (why not eat humans?), however for those on the left, I have not seen any problem with evolution, the academy and vast swaths of the left themselves treating themselves and others as beasts.

So it is OK to call conservatives and Christians anything from racist, fascist, Nazi, homophobic, xenophobes, deplorables, misogynists, islamophobes, white supremacists, sexists, nationalists, etc and on and on, however calling gang members in one of the nastiest gangs around "animals" is completely beyond the pale?

If one looks at the MOA man who threw a random 5 year old boy off a balcony, one might say that the left has created a species far worse than any "animal"!

Social Norms, Virtue, Enforcement

https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/david-brooks-gay-marriage-changing-norms/

In the middle of a column about how norms change, David Brooks remarks, “There used to be a social penalty for supporting gay marriage. Now there’s a social penalty for not supporting it.” I am not at all sure that there was a significant social penalty, in almost any stratum of our society, for supporting same-sex marriage.

Indeed.

In the past, HAVING OPINIONS rarely involved sanction. The leading exception in relatively recent memory being the dreaded HUAC (House Un American Activities Committee) focused on comunists in the country potentially spying for the Soviets. "Are you now, or have you evern been a communist or communist sympathiser".

Today, "Do you now, or have you ever been a supporter or voter for Donald Trump" seems FAR more "reasonable" to the left. Along with support gay "marriage", or lose your job, position, etc. The list keeps lengthening -- transgender, privilege, cultural appropriation, etc.

American "Morality" once was the agreed to Judaeo-Christian, 10 Commandments, New Testament, God, Country, Mom, Hard Work, Salute the Flag, Apple Pie ...

Today, "morality" is the observance of the will of THE PARTY (D) ... Salute the Deep / Administrative State, gays, trans, Muslims, destruction of the Consituition, etc. If / when you fail to 100% comply, you are very likely to be sanctioned. "Virtue" today is compliance with THE PARTY.

That is the water in which we now swim.

It seems to me that there is an asymmetry between how social pressure worked back when same-sex marriage was a minority position and how it works now that it is a majority position. That asymmetry tends to reinforce some of Brooks’s larger points about how norms change. The traditionalist view was widely but, it turned out, often lightly held, and barely conscious of itself as a view. Marriage as the union of a man and a woman was just “the water in which we swam,” as Brooks describes the general functioning of norms. The progressive view is by contrast extremely conscious of its status as a view that can and should be socially enforced.

"Love Your Enemies", Aurthur Brooks

https://www.amazon.com/love-your-enemies-brooks/s?k=love+your+enemies+brooks

A worthy read for our times by an ex-professional orchestra french horn player, a current staunch Catholic intellectual, and outgoing president of AEI,

Aurthur's thesis is that our problem is "contempt", and that in sort of a self help way by looking at how contempt damages us personally, breaks our relationships and is toxic to our country, no rational person would continue to want to wallow in it.

He is right of course, however, even though he brings in the work of Jonathan Haidt (the innate moral virtues) in chapter 4, I question if he really has internalized (or maybe doesn't agree with) Haidt's thesis that we are not in fact "rational", but rather "rationalizing".

He says a few times a version of "Unless we hope to become a one-party state...we" 1) need to honor different viewpoints 2) can't afford contempt 3). require a healthy opposition ... etc.

My take on late 20 teen America is that half the country thought we WERE a defacto "one party state" as of 2008, with the Deep / Administrative State being totally locked, academia, the bulk of the media and media happily on board, topped off with  a demographic juggernaut of thoroughly indoctrinated left leaning youth and safety net addicted immigrants (legal and illegal)  insuring that the single-party lock was only going to get more solid.

Their response to Trump seems to be: 1). Impeach him 2). get rid of Electoral College / Senate power 3). Stack the SCOTUS  4). Collect all the guns in case the "deplorables" take offence to any of this. If they do accomplish those goals, we will have a one-party state, and I'm not so certain that a whole bunch of folks on the left don't find that to be a very good idea.

If not, then the advice in this book on learning to listen, the advantages of understanding "them", and "better disagreement" is excellent.

While there no doubt some right-wing extremists that unfriend, shun, etc, I've never met any. (just like the folks at CBS in NY in 1980 were shocked because they didn't know a single Reagan voter maybe). My sense is that Christians like Brooks and myself really just don't "get" how truly inhuman "Love Your Enemies" is -- we know it is hard, however we accept on faith that it is possible. My sense is that for many non-Christianw, this admonishment is akin to "Be a married bachelor" or "be a living dead person".

An oxymoron ... like "military intelligence'.

When one sees something as irrational to the point of being ridiculous, it seems unlikely they will seek to undertake the difficult task of embarking on the attempt.

Again, I hope I am wrong!

The Paternalistic World View and 401Ks

https://www.vox.com/2019/3/27/18174385/retirement-savings-401-k

A VOX article that lets us look iniside the mind of the left as to their understanding of the "common man", and what ought be done relative to "average people". They believe that humans CAN'T learn to save for the future, so the important job falls on business and the government -- "the elite",

There’s a reason, it turns out, why employers didn’t hand retirement planning off to workers: 401(k)s are terrible at ensuring that those who need to save for retirement do. Indeed, over the same period in which 401(k)s expanded, the share of working-age households at risk of being financially unprepared at age 65 jumped from 31 percent (in 1983) to more than 53 percent (in 2010). Indeed, the terribleness of 401(k)s helped spark a new field of behavioral economics, which showed that voluntary plans in which people manage their own investments defy everything we know about how the brain works.

Reading the short book "The Millionaire Next Door" explains that most of the wealthy in America are people that follow a simple rule ... spend less than you make, put the savings in something that goes up in value. Naturally, there are LOTS of forces trying to tell you that is "foolishness". "What will a million dollars be worth in 50 years anyway?" Is one of the things I've heard ... the answer ; "A million dollars more than zero". As a corollary, MUCH more than a million dollars MINUS a bunch of debt and interest paid out of your pocket!

There are a whole host of reasons that people are more unprepared for retirement today than in '83 ... massive regulation, the economy being basically stagnant for a decade from '08-'16, crushing taxes including ever more crushing FICA tax (in 1975 it was 5.85 on the first 14k, today it is 6.2 on the first 127K! $819 vs $7,874), lots of inflation (much of it undeclared once the government got into the "inflation adjusted" business), no interest on savings, crushing medical costs made 3-5x MORE crushing on those who DID save by BOcare ... the list is just endless and much of the "help" keeping people down is courtesy of the the elite through the Davos crowd, government, and Deep / Administrative State.

However, the BIG reason remains that FICA gives people a very false sense of "security". If it had been created as what it actually is -- "old age POVERTY welfare" (and a giant new federal tax), which would only go to people without savings, assets, pensions and other income streams, then a much higher percentage of people would save more. It **IS** welfare for elderly, and increasingly if you are not impoverished in old age your small benefit is taxed away from you anyway.

In other words, like typical government, those that pay the most get the least -- or nothing.

**IF** the government actually wanted to "help the irresponsible common man", they would do what W proposed ... put something like the FICA percentage in private non-profit fiduciary managed fund of broad indices of stocks, bonds, property, commodities, metals, etc. NOTHING is "certain", and CERTAINLY NOT THE GOVERNMENT! (see numerous failed governments over history ... Venezuela currently, 100's of them around the globe over the past century or so, with runaway inflation in Germany in the early 1920's being a well known case with an "advanced" nation.

Of course, telling the truth would have never given the giant boost to government spending that FICA did. It was set up so that everyone could imagine getting it, but the original dates you could get it insured that very few would actually collect, and most of those would not collect for long. It was a HUGE "win win" for the government ASSUMING "an ever growing employed population, an ever expanding economy, and not very many people reaching retirement age" -- all assumptions that have proven spectacularly wrong like most "government projections".

It really was successful for what it was supposed to be -- a massive vote buying Democrat party operation.

The reality of it all is that "there is no free lunch" ... the vast majority of people (and businesses) MUST spend less than earned and put the remainder in something that goes up in value. When they don't, the person, business or country will go bankrupt and have NOTHING!

"Liberalism" may look and sound "paternalistic", but no good father would really follow policies that are guaranteed to lead to bankruptcy! The idea that the population is less responsible than the government is obvious idiocy in even a democratic republic! Who votes in the supposed "wise men" that are going to care for us all? The same idiots that can't spend less than they make and put the difference in something that rises in value!

Those elected "wise men" have run up over $200 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities ON TOP of the over $20 TRILLION in US debt. On top of that, state and local debt exceeds $3 TRILLION!

Remember, the people running that up are the "elite"  VOX assures you ought to have MORE power because they are "smart and responsible" and you can count on them taking "good care of you"!

Naturally, those folks will tell you that anyone that advises "God, Guns and Gold" is a COMPLETE idiot ... you would not want to be called names by the elite would you?

How Republicans Became Red

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/when-republicans-were-blue-and-democrats-were-red-104176297/

Good little bit of recent history. How did color of socialism, rebellion, anger, blood and Satan become the designated color for Republicans in the US?

The Smithsonian assures us it was a complete ACCIDENT!

Early in the article they state the obvious ...
“For years, both parties would do red and blue maps, but they always made the other guys red,” said Chuck Todd, political director and chief White House correspondent for NBC News. “During the Cold War, who wanted to be red?”
Indeed, prior to the breakup of the Soviet Union little more than two decades ago, “red was a term of derision,” noted Mitchell Stephens, a New York University professor of journalism and author of A History of News.
Yes, and blue is the color of water, cool, calm, the Union Army, the sky, etc.-- and it is the most popular color, with 40% of men prefering it and 30% of women -- oh, and only about 10% of each prefer red. I'm CERTAIN that the choice of red for Republicans was PURELY because their name starts with an "R" -- I mean if that was the reason why would you not make the Democrats "Dirt Brown"?

BTW, if you go look at the color selections, blue and GREEN would be the obvious choices!

Why the Smithsonian -- the museum of the Deep / Administrative State even finds us an EXPERT to verify that it really makes no difference!
Sara Quinn, a visual journalist now at the Poynter Institute in Florida, said she sees no particular advantage to either color.
“Red is usually very warm and it comes forward to the eye. Blue tends to be a recessive color, but a calming color,” she said.
You know, such things have a tendency to raise a red flag for me!

CNN Does Parody Of Itself On Clinton Impeachment

https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/08/opinions/clinton-impeachment-gop-hypocrisy-avlon/index.html

As with most things, Jesus said it best Matt 7:5 "Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye."

The rub is of course that we are ALL hypocrites all the time. We see our own behavior and that of our tribe or "team" to be excuseable at worst if it is indeed "wrong" at all. In 1999, the watchword for CNN, NPR, NY Times, etc was "Move On!", "It's a private matter, only about consentual sex!"

The article closes with:
Looking at the GOP's approach to Clinton's impeachment trial 20 years ago, it's clear there is now a double standard when it comes to Trump. Hypocrisy used to be the unforgivable sin in American politics. But that seems to be one more casualty of Trump's presidency.
Duh!  It was actually completely clear then as it was when Jesus said Matt 7:5. Clinton lied under oath, had sexual relations with an employee (illegal under US statutes, consensual or not -- oral sex provided by an employee to a McDonald's manager will get them fired too!)  More importantly, Clinton was PRESIDENT when he did those things -- Trump was a private citizen. What CNN primarily gives us is the billionth proof of Jesus's teaching -- the log in their own eye has completely blinded them!

I loved this paragraph:
Trump's former attorney general, Jeff Sessions, took a strong stand against lying from the oval office. After Clinton was acquitted by the Senate on two articles of impeachment in February 1999, Sessions spoke out about the impact it could have on the culture of the country. "It is crucial to our system of justice that we demand the truth. I fear that an acquittal of this President will weaken the legal system by providing an option for those who consider being less than truthful in court," he said.
Unless CNN is happy about Trump being president, they actually agree with Sessions! Convict Slick in the Senate (as he should have been under the Nixon standard), and there would be no Trump as president! Just as Sessions said, Clinton getting away with it lowered the bar and one result of that is TRUMP!

I'd argue that the "Nixon standard" is actually the root of the problem. Republicans hopefully (but foolishly it turns out), DID cross the aisle to side with the Deep State, Media and Democrats who hated Nixon with the same kind of hatred that they now hate Trump. Republicans thought that evidence of a president "obstructing justice" was a worthy standard. Democrats however didn't expect it to be a standard for DEMOCRAT presidents, only for Republican ones! Which became totally clear in the Clinton impeachment.

It is pretty much a self defeating standard. If makes it reasonable for the opposition party, which is going to include the Deep State and the Media in the D case, to attempt to "investigate" a president of the other party. When they do, the president is almost certain to attempt to prevent the "investigation" (often just a "fishing expedition" or "witch hunt"), from destroying himself, his friends, and possibly his administration. When you are president, self defence quickly becomes "obstruction of justice".

In the Clinton case, there was a "there there" ... Paula Jones was a real person, Monica Lewinsky, Kathleen Wily and Juanita Broderick were all real as well, and in the age of "#METOO", more people acknowledge that. In the case of the Mueller investigatition we now know there was nothing to investigate in the first place. The entire operation was purely a political op.

I'd be remiss if I did not point out a classic CNN dodge here. Clinton WAS impeached in the House, so where the vote counted was in the SENATE.  Thus, in a classic case of "When accused of killing three men and a dog, he promptly produced the dog alive", CNN gives us this:
When it was all over, a handful of House Democrats voted against Clinton, and several Republicans crossed partisan lines to acquit the president on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. So while partisan lines did largely hold, there were still some politicians who put their principles ahead of party loyalty.
However, the internet makes it easy to look up. NO DEMOCRAT crossed party lines in the Senate to cast a guilty vote, and since it wasn't going to pass without those votes 5-10 Republicans crossed lines for likely political rather than moral purposes. A bit different than what CNN would like to you think!
A two-thirds vote (67 senators) was required to remove Clinton from office. Fifty senators voted to remove Clinton on the obstruction of justice charge and 45 voted to remove him on the perjury charge; no member of his own Democratic Party votedguilty on either charge.
Jesus remains 100% correct -- and CNN remains 50% correct (at best). They can see faults in the opposition (Republicans) very well, and they are completely blind to the faults on their own side!

Mueller Steele History's Dustbin

https://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/435872-mueller-confirms-the-steele-dossier-belongs-in-the-dustbin-of-history

A good review of the obvious of the past 2-3 years. Russia is an energy producing country which in no way ever wanted pro-fracking Trump to win. However in ll cases they like to make themselves look good and the US look bad.

They exposed Hillary's rigging the primaries over Bernie, cheered Trump as the "people's choice" whom they like everyone else figured to lose badly, and then immediately went anti-Trump when he was elected.

The US left is completely single minded -- POWER, no matter what the cost. They care not at all about the US position in the world, and even less about their effect on "deploreables" that happen to live withing the borders of a nation that they know to be completely corrupt because they are the corruption running BOistan via the levers of the Administrative / Deep State!

Witch Hunt Fails to Produce Witches

https://pjmedia.com/rogerlsimon/the-american-media-destroyed-themselves-over-mueller/

Anybody that thought about this for more than a couple seconds knew there was no way in hell Russia would try to elect Trump -- they produce energy, he is totally pro-fracking and Hillary was totally anti-fracking. The Russkies spent millions to stop fracking and they seem generally less stupid than the US.

The linked summary is worth going off and reading -- a nice litany of the "indictments" for things totally unrelated to the supposed purpose of the special counsel.

However, again, if you have a brain you know the actual purpose -- same as the Kavenaugh calumny: To send a message to anyone with any thoughts of working with, being associated with, or possibly even supporting Trump or any ideas that do not 100% align with progressive dogma! Like the 80+ "Trump associates", or "people that might have some connection with Trump or support of Trump" who find themselves under subpeona "just in case" ... meaning "just in case" the Democrats or Deep State (but I repeat myself) can find anything to charge them with. OR, just in case they can haul them up in front of a judge, get them to state a date wrong (like Scooter Libby), and then charge them with "perjury".

What does it take to get a clear majority of BOistanis enraged enough to vote for some real change? We had been "changing" to a totalitarian state operated by the Federal Bureaucracy since at least the "New Deal", with warp drive kicking around LBJ and then Watergate. When BO was elected, the "hope" seemed to be that the dopes in fly over country would just shut up, take drugs and die!

When they elected Trump, the left decided to "resist" the results of a valid election and here we are. Are they going to apologize, admit that the whole thing was a scam, and that not only did they manage to make America "not great", they managed to turn it into a lawless banana republic where things like the Mueller witch hunt happen and nobody that cooked the whole thing up goes to jail, or ever even says "sorry, never mind".

Perhaps they really meant to investigate Trump for "Rushing to a Conclusion" as opposed to "Russian Collusion"?

Proof The Legal System Is Political

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2019/03/why-is-trump-losing-so-often-in-court.php

The idea of "law" is that the honorable judge rules ONLY on the LAW, not on their bias. As Joshua 1:7 says “Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest have good success whithersoever thou goest”

Almost half of the 63 rulings in question (29 of them) came from jurisdictions within the left-wing Ninth Circuit. This percentage is wildly out-of-line with a random distribution. In other words, the numbers the Post touts are the result of extreme bias.
The linked article points out the obvious,  that in BOistan, "law" is just another political process. Any "Judge" that makes their decisions on the basis of politics ... Democrat OR Republican is no Judge at all -- they are a political bureaucrat, just like the millions we have in Federal, State and Local governments.

BOistan is a left wing state run by a massive bureaucracy -- elected, appointed, hired, the power is in "The Party" (TP-D)

Deciding Decency

https://thehill.com/homenews/news/432137-biden-responds-to-criticism-over-calling-pence-decent-guy

There was a time in America when people actually cared about "decency", whatever that concept might entail in BOistan. It certainly can't be a fixed concept, since that would mean that neither Hillary or BO were "decent" when they ran for president in 2008, since both were opposed to gay "marriage".

I nearly spit my coffee out through my nose this AM listening to NPR's "Political Junkie" program as both host Kerri Miller and host Ken Gruden agreed that it was CERTAINLY appropriate for Biden to walk back his comment about Pence being "decent", because you just could not be "decent" in BOistan and not be wholly in support of gay "marriage".

Ergo, practicing Christians are no longer "decent" in BOistan. No real surprise, because they had all but been officially called "deploreables" in 2016 ... in fact IRREDEEMABLE Deploreables! Not much to do with "irredeemables" than to put them to death! Remember, the left was once the bastion of "rehabilitation" ... for rapists, murderers, you name it. Maybe all but white Christians now?

Imagine if the media would ask Ilhan Omar if she supported gay "mariage". I would assume that as a Muslim, she does not, but how would we know? No need for our "adversarial" media to ask her -- she is after all on their side! Which of course "by definition" means she is a "decent person".

"Progress" in BOistan is breakneck ... the "progressive" party candidates in 2008 were not even "decent people" by the agreed standards of the BOistani elite in 2019.

I've completely given up trying to figure out what you will have to celebrate in 2029 to be considered "decent" by "The Party" (TP-D)  ... well, what will you have to celebrate beyond infanticide, socialism, gay "marriage", an unpredictable number of genders ... and ????

Ah, "progress"!

Socialism Lives In Darkness

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/11/world/americas/venzuela-blackout-maduro.html

Democracy may or may not die in darkness as the WaPo thinks, but socialism clearly lives in darkness. And without food, sanitary water, and a whole host of other things including hope. BO, Occasional Cortex, Bernie, Beto, Spartacus, etc may claim to provide "Hope", but it is "Hope a Dope" ... fake hope for people that read neither history, economics, nor even current events.

Our Contemptuous Nation

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/02/opinion/sunday/political-polarization.html

An article that observes part of our problem in BOistan, but fails to really understand it. It is worth reading it. A quote ...
People often say that our problem in America today is incivility or intolerance. This is incorrect. Motive attribution asymmetry leads to something far worse: contempt, which is a noxious brew of anger and disgust. And not just contempt for other people’s ideas, but also for other people. In the words of the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, contempt is “the unsullied conviction of the worthlessness of another.”
I argue that we did not experience this situation even close to fully until the Obama years. In the Obama years the "dominant party", the modern leftist Democrats, who I refer to as "The Party" (TP) experienced total control for the first time since at least the 1960's, if not "ever". Why?

Because prior to the 60's, the "Solid South" was all "Democrat", but those were conservative Democrats. Being anti-Christian, or as we see recently, anti-Semitic, let alone Socialist was beyond the pale. Sure, they often had big majorities in both houses and won the presidency by large margins, but those margins included many Democrats that were much more conservative than today's "moderate Republicans" ... they were Christian, pro-family, pro-life, pro-military, pro-business, pro-gun, strongly patriotic, hard working, etc

After the initial foray of using the Deep State to attack political enemies -- Watergate, the Democrats again had all the apparent cards, but Carter himself was at that time a fairly conservative Democrat, and many of the Democrat elected officials from the south were still conservative.

Post Reagan, they had two years that were a prelude to the BO years -- they had the presidency and both houses of congress, plus a left leaning judiciary, however, the Senate still honored the 60 vote filibuster, and even Bill Clinton at that point was aware that moving too far left would likely hobble his presidency. He attempted Hillarycare, and was rewarded for that attempt at government overreach with the loss of the House for the first time since 1954!

The election of BO in 2008 was a total loss of control of all levers of power by Republicans in a way that was unprecedented in American history. Because the left leaning SCOTUS was willing to legislate from the bench,  the power of Administrative / Deep State, plus the D party being universally far to the left of what even FDR or LBJ were, conservatives found themselves no longer living in "America", a country where even a strong political majority was limited by the Constitution, and the supposed jealousy of the houses of congress to prevent a president from usurping his authority.

BO was even allowed to use a "phone and a pen" to act as a monarch, and in fact, even usurped the long jealously guarded power of the House of Representatives to be the chamber with the "Power of the Purse".

While the election of Trump and both houses of congress in Republican hands in 2016 might seem similar, it quickly became obvious that it was not at all so, because the Deep / Administrative State, the Judiciary, the media, and the elites of BOistan immediately declared war on Trump and Republicans, seeking to overturn the election. The author of the article would like us to "disagree better" ... because the competition in the market of ideas is beneficial.
So what can each of us do to make things better? You might be tempted to say we need to find ways to disagree less, but that is incorrect. Disagreement is good because competition is good. Competition lies behind democracy in politics and markets in the economy, which — bounded by the rule of law and morality — bring about excellence. Just as in politics and economics, we need a robust “competition of ideas” — a.k.a. disagreement. Disagreement helps us innovate, improve and find the truth.
The author is completely correct in a rational, historical, enlightenment sense. I maintain however that he just doesn't understand that we now live in ... BOistan.

Take a look at today's campuses. Read a couple books like "The Coddling of the American Mind", "Political Tribes", or "The Suicide Of The West".  The idea that the free exchange of ideas in a "market of ideas" is a primary GOOD is an AMERICAN ideal based on Western civilization. BOistan does NOT share that vision! BO and the nation he created sees Western civilization as BAD ... in "Dreams from My Fathers" he explicitly sets out to "destroy the colonial powers", which WERE "Western civilization", and replace it with a 100% leftist tribalist, socialist, centrally controlled world state. THAT is the "the world" he declared himself to be a citizen of -- NOT "America"!

Why is MAGA so triggering to the left? Because as they say regularly, AMERICAN WAS NEVER GREAT! America was founded by white people who took it from native people and held slaves. It did not truly provide equal opportunity to all, and it certainly did not provide the goal of the left, equality of result! "America" as understood for over 200 years of it's history does NOT fit with the goals of the left, and one of the specific areas it does not fit is relative to competition of any sort as being "good". The left sees "rule by experts" as the proper solution, NOT some free market of anything ... certainly not ideas or products!

It would be wonderful for this territory to return to Western civilization and values, but while the author of the column, and even the authors of may of the books above may believe that "reasonable people" will look at their arguments and agree, I maintain that if you look at Ilhan Omar or Ocasio Cortez and their level of popularity, you see that the mood of the left is NOT toward any return to what Western civilization was based on, but rather to continue the path started by BO -- to see it's continued destruction.

The intent of today's left, which clearly includes the entire Deep / Administrative State at the Federal, State and Local levels (all unionized employees), the universities, the major corporations (Google, Amazon, Apple, etc), the vast bulk of the legal system and the media is a centrally controlled totalitarian state that explicitly prevents any form of disagreement, and immediately labels such disagreement "hate speech". MAGA itself is considered "hate speech" in many quarters.

It would be wonderful if we could talk our way out of this by "disagreeing better", however a short look at the current trends of the Democrat congress ... all out war on the president, including attacking and jailing anyone associated with him including family, failure to censure anti-semitism, and promises to pack the SCOTUS to destroy the main thing gained democratically in the last election -- I think you will agree that the way this is headed is not a "talking" or "voting" war.

TP has made VERY clear that they only honor elections that are in their favor, and they seek to overturn those that are not. They don't want to talk, they don't want to vote! They want to WIN and RULE! ... and it their eyes, it is simply for our own good ... we irredeemable deporeables!

Outrage Industrial Complex

https://pjmedia.com/richardfernandez/hybridcivil/

What is one source of anti-tribes in America? "The Outrage Industrial Complex";

The sources of motive attribution asymmetry are easy to identify: divisive politicians, screaming heads on television, hateful columnists, angry campus activists and seemingly everything on the contempt machines of social media. This “outrage industrial complex” works by catering to just one ideological side, creating a species of addiction by feeding our desire to believe that we are completely right and that the other side is made up of knaves and fools. It strokes our own biases while affirming our worst assumptions about those who disagree with us.
Contempt and hatred as a a source of profit. Be warned!

NPR Against Fauxahontas Wealth Tax

Link to article.

Seems a little odd that NPR put this out there ... no doubt it won't get much airplay. Perhaps they are worrid that such a tax would impact one of the many foundations that are heavy contributers to their coffers ... "Arthur Vining Davis", "The Blandin", or one of my favorites, the MacArthur, whose goal is a more "Just, Verdant, and Peaceful Future" ... how can one argue with the mega rich funding such a pitctureesque utopia while they push policies to enslave the propagandized masses in to the massive state beauracracy?

The article is short and worth the read -- other than the wealth tax not collecting much money, high costs of attempting to collect the money, causing a mass exodus of wealthy, and negaltively affecting the economy, it is OK. Other than the patient dying, the operation was a success.

The Banality of Totalitarianism

https://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/todays-progressive-race-hate-moment/

Look at National Socialist Germany, the USSR, Mao's China, N Korea, Venezuala, etc and sane people wonder "how do things like that happen?". Oh if there were just one crazy simple "sure sign" that would allow us to innoculate against the totalitarian impulse!

There are all sorts of base reasons ... people lose a sense of history, of culture, the ability to understand what it is that their civililization and culture are about, they start to believe that "history has an arc" ... therefore what is new must be better, and the future better still. We could go on ... but the day to day reason is simply that nearly everyone wants to "go along to get along". Why have a conflict if you can find a way to fit in and go along with whatever the masses are saying is "correct".

The linked article covers the specific case of Esquire magazine doing a profile of a "typical white male  teenager in Trump country".

The linked is a bit long,  but I think it is worth it because it is all so ordinary ... banal. We see this sort of writing and thinking everyday, however if one reads something like the Gulag Archipeligo we realize that we are increasingly living in the conditions found in a totalitarian state already -- it is just that so far, unless you really stick your head up like Trump, the "enforcement" is via public shaming vs incarceration.

I think this quote from the article is a good example of what I'm talking about:

To explain the stultifying effects of Communism on the individual, he relates a story of the greengrocer who puts a sign in his shop window proclaiming, “Workers of the World, Unite!” The grocer doesn’t believe the Marxist credo. Rather, he displays the sign “because everyone does it, and because that is the way it has to be. If he were to refuse, there could be trouble.” The sign, Havel writes, conveys the following message to passersby and society at large: “I, the greengrocer XY, live here and I know what I must do. I behave in the manner expected of me. I can be depended upon and am beyond reproach. I am obedient and therefore I have the right to be left in peace.”
So much of what passes for journalism and political conversation today mimics the pathetic self-abnegation of the greengrocer. People are constantly writing and saying things of highly dubious merit — “Hannah Gadsby is funny,” “Islam is the religion of peace,” “Trans Women are Women,” “’Black Panther’ deserves an Oscar nomination for Best Picture” — as if they were religious incantations. The whole lamentable phenomenon is utterly totalitarian in spirit and has been abetted by social media, where one can instantly and constantly display his or her correct opinions and righteous outrage in the hope of keeping the wolves at bay. Depart from the consensus, fail to display the correct slogans in the proverbial shop window, and “there could be trouble.”
