Democratic Socialism, A Cuban American Explains

https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/voices/2018/08/28/democrat-family-escaped-socialism-ocasio-cortez-worries-me-column/1106307002/

This column by the son of Cuban immigrants is worth the time. I think this paragraph gives us a look at the only "benefit" of "Democratic Socialism" ...

Like those of yesteryear, today’s socialists believe the government should nationalize major industries, propose eliminating private ownership of companies, and reject profits. In other words, democratic socialism is a lot like the system my family fled, except its proponents promise to be nicer when seizing your business.
What I disagree with the columnist on is that what "Democratic Socialism" really is would be "Democratic Fascism" ... Hitler with a smiley face. This is well covered in Jonah Goldberg's book "Liberal Fascism".

Today's millenials are ripe for fascism ... certainly not students of history, very easily taken in by the slick pitch about "greatest good for the greatest number", no theological of philosophical grounding.  Lambs to the slaughter.

#FakePartisan, Enemy Of The Deep State

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/president-non-grata-trump-often-unwelcome-and-unwilling-to-perform-basic-rituals-of-the-office/2018/08/28/302b60ee-aa16-11e8-a8d7-0f63ab8b1370_story.html?utm_term=.d8d61dac61b6&wpisrc=nl_most&wpmm=1

Understanding "politics" in BOistan 2018 is very simple:
  1. There is ONE party, "The Party" (TP-D) that you must be a member of if you want to be "elite". It owns the Deep / Administrative State, the MSM, all of the legal system except for the SCOTUS, education, and corporate BOistan except for a few energy companies.
  2. There is a #FakeParty that uses an elephant as a symbol -- see below to understand this party IS NOT "the opposition" to TP ... it is the adjunct cutout.
  3. TP and it's stooges in the #FakeParty are completely beholden to the Deep / Administrative State as well as the international Davos crowd. Follow the money ... in BOistan it is in DC and government workers
What is the proof of this for this week? Read on ...
In addition to being pointedly not invited to McCain’s funeral and memorial service later this week — while former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush will both eulogize the Arizona Republican — Trump was quietly asked to stay away from former first lady Barbara Bush’s funeral earlier this year.
If our "politicians" where truly "partisan", rules like Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment  ("Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican") would be in effect. While supposedly "in power", W was never accepted as a legitimate president by TP. He was "appointed by the SCOTUS", he was too stupid to read, he was castigated because it was claimed he wasn't a very good fighter pilot in the TX National Guard (nevermind that Slick Willie and BO never put on any sort of uniform for even a day).

Now however? The Bushes are fully alingned with TP to discredit and remove Trump! "Partisanship" stops at TRUMP ... because Trump threatens the Deep / Adminstrative / Davos TP State! It's been 30 years since Reagan left the White House, and since that time we have had nothing but TP controlled "presidents" up to Trump!

HW was a former director of the CIA -- you don't get much more Deep State than that. Slick Willie was a nothing from Arkansas, but he had spent time at Oxford including taking part in anti-Vietnam war protests off shore, and a week long foray into the USSR. Slick was somewhat a "citizen of the world" as well (hick of the world?).

W was and is clearly part of the TP controlled state apparatus. Sure, he "played a role" as being something different during the early '00's, but unsurprisingly, he and BO were on the same page relative to the massive government bailouts of Wall Street and the banks in '08. I'm sure they will enjoy getting together and comparing notes on the joys of being an ex-president member of TP in good standing!

Isn't it convienient that John McCain was the cutout for the coronation of BO? Then Mittens Romney with his "binders of women" and his arcane thinking that Russia, RUSSIA! Was an enemy! This was 2012 folks ... BO proudly put poor Mitt in his place with "The 1980's called, they wanted their foreign policy back!". Hey, "the Cold War is OVER" ... those Russians are GOOD GUYS, they even take our astronauts to space!

The TP controlled media has told you the Russians are our friends, up to enforcing BO's "Red Line" (pink line?) in Syria in 2013 AND our sworn enemies over a period of less than 6 years. Are you a marionette or a thinking person?

As we watch the TP controlled State cannonize one of the true RINO weasels of all time this week, watch and LEARN. **ONLY** when we ALL bow and scrape to TP can we be "one nation of BOistan, under Satan". There is zero room for diversity of thought in BOistan. Learn to be comfortable in the "way of the weasel" if you want to be a "Republican" ... run on one thing, then do the opposite! THEN, be cannonized by TP as a "great man".

If you want to stand up and be what used to be called "American", Trump is the only current leader around with those credentials. Imperfect as hell, YEsssss! One can dream of a time with better leaders that stand for something other than fealty to TP, but that time is not yet! If we don't support this one, be ready to stand in socialist lines and do without!

No Virtue To Signal

Virtue & Democracy -- The People We Deserve | National Review:

I've been blogging for 13 years now and thinking critically (meaning reading history, philosophy and theology) rather than buying into the "flavor of the day" from ANY news source ... left or right for 40years. I have no need to virtue signal -- I have no virtue, I am the most filthy of sinners, completely unworthy of the mercy that I pray and believe that Jesus Christ bestows on me without the least shred of merit.

In the "80's", I believed that our society had been heavily damaged by the "sick sixties", and if we merely saw the error of our ways since then, we would return to a virtuous society. Now I know it is MUCH deeper than that ... William of Occam, the Reformation, the "Enlightenment", the advance of technology (ease, mass communication, birth control, etc) and a few other things ALLOWED (not "caused") the decline of not only America, but "Western civilization" in it's entirety.

To talk of "school shootings" or "gun control" is like a 95 year old terminal cancer patient seeking treatment for acne compared to what the fact of mass shootings, massive addiction, massive death by overdose/suicide, and the utter hopelessness that most of the population of our broken excuse for a "cutlure / civilization" are experiencing . It is COMPLETELY meaningless given our plight. I covered the idiocy of concern for shootings after Vegas. Just look at FB -- lots of virtue signalling from many ... signifying exactly nothing except "this is my tribe, please agree with me, lots of people in my tribe agreeing with me gives my life the illusion of meaning".

As I posted on one friends FB lament, in 1974 when I graduated HS, we took our guns to school to go hunting after school or to work on them in shop. The idea of a "school shooting" was just as far from our minds as the idea of "texting" ... it simply didn't exist. M-16's however DID exist -- guys used the full auto versions in "Nam" and some of them started hunting with the semi-auto versions of them because they were light and accurate, and since the body mass of a deer is pretty much exactly like a person, they were of course great deer guns.

"Made for one purpose only" is one of the zanier lines out there relative to guns. It is true that guns are single purpose items ... they are built to send projectiles downrange as accurately as possible. The VAST bulk of projectiles hit PAPER or some similar sort of target, because that is what they are used for. The best comparison for me is golf -- correct, nobody NEEDS to have multi-thousand dollar clubs to put a white ball in a hole on a field, but humans OFTEN do MANY things that nobody "needs" to do. Here is Robin Williams on the sense of golf (many f-bomb warning)

Oh, "but golf balls don't kill people" ... but certainly they do, and no doubt clubs are used as weapons, carts crash, etc, etc. If it were not so sad it would be extremely ironic that it was William of Occam that declared that objects have no inherent purpose / meaning as in being "sacred", but are rather mere objects with any meaning only assigned by man -- "nominalism".

The fetishization of guns is a pretty good proof that something in the nature of man wants to imbdue objects with purpose and meaning.

So our lives are FILLED with all sorts of things that we "don't need", many of which are even explicitly harmful (like cigarettes).  However, we DO need to feel virtuous as part of our human nature, so thousands of people signalling their virtue on FB by declaring that "nobody NEEDS an "assault rifle"", when probably 1% of them could tell you what the difference between an "AR" and some other gun was. The answer is of course "nothing but style". I have a nasty looking "black gun", a .223 Bushmaster, and a nice wooden stock Remington 742 Woodsmaster 30-06. I can put a 30 round magazine in either one of them and shoot those rounds as fast as I can pull the trigger, because they are semi-auto.

I'm not much in the shop, but given a not too huge amount of time, if I need to convert 5 or 10 round mags into 30, 60 or whatever, I can ... however the time would likely be better spent working on mag change dexterity which with even a klutzy guy like me a medium level of skill can pretty much make magazine size moot -- "wait till he changes mags then rush him" is wishful thinking if the shooter is even moderately skilled at a mag change.

Short of ceasing to honor the 2nd amendment (which just makes it REALLY clear that there are no "laws" in BOistan), or actually repealing it -- legal, but unlikely, all the virtue signalling about "Assault Weapons" is just virtue signalling. Preventing car companies from putting "SS" (Super Sport) on ttheir cars ... or wide tires, or dual exhausts, etc because "it makes them seem like Race Cars" is of similar use.

"This highlights the problem with capitalism. As Irving Kristol observed in one of his greatest works, “When Virtue Loses All Her Loveliness,” there is a difference between a “free society” and a “just” or “bourgeois” society. The Founders worked on the assumption that the people themselves would be the guardians of virtue, probity, norms, and even public safety in their own communities. And, as Kristol notes, for the first century or two of capitalism’s existence, it was largely synonymous with a just/bourgeois society."

In the 20th century, we did away with "just" step by step until we ended up with a mass of individuals with no idea of right or wrong ... and even less of the eternal consequences of "wrong".

Trade, DOW, No News

https://www.actionforex.com/live-comments/125175-dow-breaks-26000-as-nafta-announce-is-almost-certain/

I knew the market was on a tear yesterday, I did a google of "market breaks 26K", and the articles were sparse ... the linked was the only one on the first page of hits (rest were first 26k break in 2017). Dow news was totally absent CNN, and on my Google News, the first semi-related story was from Bloomberg ... "Trump's Mexico Trade Deal Looks Like a Lemon". Wow, is it yellow?

So the president proimises a new trade deal during the campaign, DELIVERS, and the MARKETS surge as business finds it to be very good news, but virtually the entire US media finds the economy to be a non-story! I DID actually go over and look at Fox on the web, which I rarely do -- OMG, what a total tabloid! Fox is no longer "news" at all, fake, or otherwise ... when this is your "below the fold" on the web, you don't deserve to be clicked by sentient humans ...

"Mysterious Appearance"! And yes, ESPN and CNN are out on a Tiger hatefest because he refused to go make disparaging remarks about the President! I suppose at least 50% of BOistanis find this to be ""news", but this is really NOT "a country", let alone "my country" at this point!

Socialism, Communism, Fascism, Hate

https://www.newcriterion.com/blogs/dispatch/socialism-as-a-hate-crime-9746

Good article. As I've said a thousand times if I've said it once, why is it that even though the nominal "fascists" in Hitler's Germany called themselves "National Socialists", nobody believes them??? They were complete amatuers at killing compared to our "friends" (at least NPR's friends) the Communists, easily responsible for over 100 million deaths, and likely as many as 250 million!

“in sum, the communists probably have murdered something like 110 million, or near two-thirds of all those killed by all governments, quasi-governments, and guerrillas from 1900 to 1987. Of course the total itself is shocking. It is several times the thirty-eight million battle-dead that have been killed in all this century’s international and domestic wars. Yet the probable number of murders by the Soviet Union alone—one communist country—well surpasses this cost of war.”
I think this meme is helpful ...

In theory, the GOAL of the USSR, Cuba, China, North Korea, etc is "Communism" ... no private ownership of ANYTHING, all owned by "the collective". Socialism is what one gets when the idea is government control of the economy with a big safety net until the economy fails and it can no longer be paid for. Then you get Venezuala, and to some degree USSR (thus the ending), North Korea and Cuba.

While Churchill called Russia a "Riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma", China is at least as inscrutable. Of all the modern states, it is really more Fascist than anything -- strongly nationalistic, lots of government deals and control of supposedly "private" companies that indeed have some level of autonomy. That is the core of Fascism ... some big players make a lot of money, investors ostensively "own" companies, people own real estate, cars, etc, yet the CALL themselves "Communist".

It also sounds like in China the main mark of Socialism ... the massive "safely net" is threadbare at best. China is too interested in getting wealthy -- something either Communists or Socialists at least claim to eschew. The thing they DON'T eschew is POWER ... so if they get it, they KEEP IT!

Socialist policies, moreover, are always going to fail because it is impossible for central planners efficiently to allocate capital, goods, and services across a large economy. Socialism, after all, was always a political doctrine and never a plausible economic theory. When there arose shortages of food or housing or military equipment—when socialist policies failed—leaders were faced with a choice of admitting failure and abandoning the socialist path or doubling down on their policies and preserving their power. It was in their nature to choose the latter course, and thus to press forward with more extreme measures, which typically involved the identification of scapegoats and counter-revolutionary elements as causes of failure. From here it was but a few steps to the catastrophic outcomes described above: show trials, terror famines, mass starvation, cultural revolutions, “killing fields,” and democide.
To some extent, the whole class of "isms" ... Communism, Socialism, Fascism, are death worship ideologies that discount human creativity, ingenuity, and growth. ("The Creator" is not somebody they worship) They are about dividing up a basically fixed pie, and inevitably create an increasingly powerful central government that forces adherence to a set of economic rules "for the good of all". Naturally, the "dear leader", central bureaucracy and military have to be a good deal more "equal" than the rest of the population. The elite goes about "preserving their power" to the detriment of the many.

Much as in "Avengers Infinity Wars", half the population may need to die "for the good of all", ALL depends on your meaning of ALL, and for the elite, the "all" is very small!

The answer to why Socialism is not a "hate crime" is that in a godless entropic accidental universe, killing even 9/10ths of the people may well be judged to be "the good" by "the few".  To the extent that anyone even thinks or cares about such an abstract concept in a cult of meaningless universal death -- the cult of "secular humanism".

She Was Game, So They Shot Her

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2018/08/next-stop-the-trump-organization.php

If there was ever any doubt that the whole purpose of the "Russian Collusion" witch hunt was about anything other than overturning the results of the 2016 election and inflicting as much pain as possible on Trump and anyone associated with him, that doubt is LONG past at this point! As the meme shows, "The Party" (TP-D) is living in the Twilight Zone, and they will do ANYTHING to get out ... even fake that it wasn't THEM who colluded with a foreign power!

I'm reminded of the story of two male hunters of Polish descent -- we used to make fun of the polish, maybe we still can because they are white and Poland is pretty pro-Tump. Anyway, they were out hunting, ran into a pretty girl who said she was game, so they shot her.

So Mueller went out hunting for Russian campaign meddling, found Stormy Daniels and shot Paul Manafort.

If there was anyone  actually worried about "Russian election meddling", they  would be pretty pissed about getting bogged down in tax evasion and payoffs to women when "the real issue" was the "sanctity of our elections". (you know, the ones where you don't even need an ID to vote in) Talk about "taking your eye off the ball"!

A person with a brain can get quite a laugh out of how wonderful a person "Stormy" is portrayed as right now.  "An adult film star!" ... no doubt soon to be an "artist". In the old days,  all of the Clinton women were "bimbos, trailer trash, lying sluts, etc, etc". Back then, "sex" was completely private, and we couldn't afford to risk the economy on something so "personal". My my how times have changed!

We all know that nobody on the left actually cares about "Russian meddling" ... why, up to two weeks before the election, BO assured us that the elections were completely fair and reliable, and anyone that said otherwise (Trump) was "treasonous"! Hey, BO himself said it! It just doesn't get much more "reliable" than that! As was proven by the Roy Moore election, where TP assured us whe was a  "child molester" up to the day he was defeated, and then, rather than prosecute this cretin, he was forgotten. Obviously, those making the charges ONLY made the charges to defeat him, and the fact that they didn't continue to agitate to prosecute a "dangerous child molester" proves it!

All the virtue signalling, about "I'm a Republican, but I can't support a child molester" was actually shouting "I'm a Republican, but I'm so gullible I believe TP when they tell me what to think"!

Now, what "The Party" (TP-D) is working at is taking over the House, after which they will impeach Trump -- that plus making it clear that if you are not a member in good standing of TP who kneels before their every pronouncement, you are in danger of being audited, prosecuted, and jailed! Possibly for life! Get with the freaking program -- TP still has the Administrative / Deep State and most of the judiciary! They can wipe you and your family out and put you, your friends, and your loved ones in JAIL!

Can Trump find a way to seriously put some HURT on TP and all their illicit sources of power? I can't imagine how -- but I keep cheering for him -- it isn't like those of us that still care about tired old forgotten things like "limited government" have much of anyone else even nominally on our side. Certainly not the bulk of the "traditional Republican party", just as indebted to the special interests which are more and more ALSO just other arms of TO connected tot he Administrative / Deep State!

I know it is just fantasy, but I like to visualize Trump in the role of Riggs, and TP in the role of the folks sure "it's over". It brings a smile to my face.

Rhyming Memory Time

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/brett-kavanaugh-memo-detailed-explicit-questions-for-clinton/2018/08/20/c0854616-a488-11e8-8fac-12e98c13528d_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.49041306d5b8

For those of us alive during the staining of the oval office by Slick Willie, the "connections" to the current time are sad and funny.

Back in the late '90s, the whole MSM kept the beat of "It's the economy stupid" up like a mantra. We were in the throes of the internet bubble, and the MSM found Slick Willie to be a major cause of this frothy "emanation" (emantor in chief?). Matters of "just sex" were clearly private, and all the women that Slick had whatever kinds of "relations" he had to provide sperm samples on dresses obviously "asked for it". It was the age of "Move On", the time before "Me Too". The idea that we would even CONSIDER any of these issues in a growing economy was ridiculous. Hey, the French didn't understand what all the fuss was about!

As an NPR listener in those days, beyond the prudishness of the Republicans -- and of course their "hypocrisy", there really wasn't much news about "Monicagate". It was politicizing a clearly private matter with no impact on the workings of the country.

Fast forward to today. Is the economy growing? (4.1%) WHO CARES! Manafort! Cohen! Stormy! Arcane campaign finance laws that BO trampled like trash and paid a measy. $350K that pretty much nobody knows or cares about are now IMPEACHABLE! Hey, did you hear that the Steele Dossier says that hookers peed on a bed in Trumps presence! Wow, that is SICK!

The "law" in BOistan is whatever the Deep / Administrative State + MSM says it is! If there is an "R" next to your name, you could go to prison for "perjury" for getting a date wrong in a case about nothing (Scooter Libby, Valerie Plame, the "secret agent" that drove into Langley every day). If you are a "D", "I can't recall", "I take the 5th", "I never had sex with that woman", "there was nothing top secret on that server", etc, etc.

We don't have "laws", we have excuses for TP ("The Party"-D) to put Rs in jail!

I assume the WaPo wrote the linked column as a comedy. Kavanaugh is damned for saying that Clinton ought not be treated softly because he was president -- a pov they disagreed with then.

Now they are worried based on a paper he wrote for a law review that he may have changed his mind -- thus thinking that he may now agree with what they thought THEN, but now DISAGREE with and want Trump roasted over a spit. See, this is the "unbiased" press. Who knows if they are enemies of the people. What is really clear is that they are friends of the Democrats!

Maybe the worst thing they are worried about is that Kavanaugh might be "partisan" in the same way that they, Ginsburg, Sotomayar, Breyer and Kagan are -- having it make a difference whose ox is being gored. A position that the MSM takes pride in -- if you have a "D", you get a pass, if you have an "R", throw at least "the book" at them, if not make up some new items!

The odd part is that at least Scalia and Clarence Thomas clearly were/are not "partisans" in the D and R sense. They are "partisan" in favor of the Constitution, the Constitution as written and understood by the founders who also left us with a process to amend it if that was required. Thus, women gained the right to vote with the 19th amendment and nobody even thought to have the SCOTUS check "the prenumbra" of the Constitution to discover if the founders had really put such a right in but failed to make it clear.

Abortion is a nearly identical case to women voting -- the Founders knew all about babies and unwanted pregnancies and abortion was known and practiced from ancient times. Since the original Constitution had no bill of rights at all, and the Federalists were against there ever being one since it would seem to enumerate specifie rights, when ALL rights not explicitly given to the federal government were reserved to the people and the states, the idea that the federal government would have ANYTHING to say about abortion would have been nonsense to the founders.

When you leave principles behind, all becomes political as it has increasingly been in this territory since at least FDR, possibly Wilson, and certainly since Roe -- BOistan is a nation of politics, no laws.

History doesn't repeat itself, but it certainly rhymes!

Journ-O-List In The Open

https://www.npr.org/2018/08/16/639125774/hundreds-of-newspapers-denounce-trumps-attacks-on-media-in-coordinated-editorial

Even the NY Times recognized that BO attacked the media he didn't like -- Fox News and Talk Radio, and he attacked them with TEETH, like prosecuting a couple of them.

Back in 2010, I wrote on "Journ-O-List" ... it was a members only site where know left wing media and academic sorts traded ideas -- like how to exploit stories about Sara Palin's Downs Syndrome child (hey, maybe it was her daughters! hush, hush!), and of course, if she was a "decent person" (like lefties), she SHOULD have aborted it! If you want a few more details of this ancient history item, here is an article from 2009.

When gay rights got going in the late '70s, it was about "not being in the closet". Then it became a demand for CELEBRATION of gay "marriage" or you would be sued. Now, support of the the gay agenda is a requiremnt for keeping a job at most BOistan corporations. Freedom of sexual expression trumps freedom of religion and thought. "Liberalism" -- ideas so good they have to be mandatory and so important that disagreement with them must be illegal!

Thus it is with the press. It used to be that an INDEPENDENT press was considered to be a given (if they aren't independent, why not just have one national paper ... say "Pravda", or "Tass"?  What is "freedom" if it is only "freedom" to agree with the party line? There was EMBARRASSMENT about  Journolist ... it was clearly collusion, and the people in on it didn't really want to talk about it when it came out. Naturally, since it was lefty, there was little discussion of it, and it went away quickly.

Hillary Clinton used to talk about "the vast right wing conspiracy" and except for a few folks on the right who found her to be an out of touch paranoid, it was pretty much OK. As we see with 300+ papers writing anti-Trump editorials, there isn't any left wing "conspiracy" -- IT'S FULLY IN THE OPEN! They are now PROUD of what they were mildly embarrassed about in 2009 -- the next step is that we will have to CELEBRATE their position or we will be sued!

Of course a "press" that is a lock step arm of the "The Party" (TP-D) and it's Adaministrative / Deep Sate is an "enemy of the people"! A FREE AND INDEPENDENT PRESS is the ally of the people!

Would you be suprised to find that the 300+ editorials were coordinated with the announcements of the witch hunt indictments yesterday? I certainly would not -- I maintain the DNC is the seat power in the US and that Deep / Administrative State as well as MSM operations are either actually or effectively coordinated from there. In fact, it is global and it really isn't "secret". Look at the Steele Dossier -- it was DNC / Hillary opposition research that involved ex-British intelligence and the KGB coordinating to take down Trump.

It really isn't a "conspiracy" anymore when it is fully in the open -- you can look up the fact of wealth rolling to DC and government employees.

The level of chortleing on NPR and the rest of the MSM says that Monday was a big day for the Deep State. They are well on their way to hanging two scalps on the wall! The glee with which NPR shills intone that "Manafort may be in prison for the rest of his life" reminds us that the left always loves the gulliotine. Manafort "chose poorly" ... as really they see even Trump voters. People that deserve evil things deserve to be punished.

Amazingly, if you listen to NPR, while Manafort deserves life in prison, the "white girl in IA that Fox news is talking about" is no story at all, and the people "jumping to the conclusion" that Cristhian Bahena Rivera is guilty simply because he confessed and led them to the body are obvious racists.

"Innocent until proven guilty", just like they treat Trump.

Ideology and Occupation

https://theotherlifenow.com/occupations-and-their-ideologies/

If the linked article isn't obvious to you, I believe you can make a huge jump in understanding the world we live in by taking some time to understand it. This chart is key:

First of all note the relative middle -- the less ideologically driven. Lobbyists, financial people, Real estate people, defense contractors, and absolute middle! Travel Agents.

Why? Obviously, these people need to deal with BOTH SIDES to get their jobs done, so to some degree they see both sides.

One the left we have lawyers, academia, government workers, media and psychiatrists / psychologists as opposed to physicians ... more centrist, but clearly on the right. Why? In the medical case, there is nothing much more REAL than life and death ... blood, guts, sickness, pain, are all very REAL, and they will likely happen to even YOU!

This chart makes it obvious that real is right, abstract is left. Dealing with the human mind/consciousness is very fluffy and abstract compared to physicians. Law is a completely human created abstraction, a set of rules reified by legal system of man, by man, and for itself like all other human systems ... "the house wins", and "the house" of western society is the lawyers. When you are a lawyer, professor, government worker, etc, you are doing for and to "them". YOU are special, YOU are in authority with power.

What is on the right? The real world ... reality, "stuff", people that build things and work with real bodies, buildings, materials, growing things. MDs, dentists, truckers, construction, mining, etc. Stuff that "bites back" ... you screw up, even a little, and the building falls, your business fails, the left wing folks regulate you out of existence, somebody gets electrocuted ... real stuff happens, maybe to YOU!

Now a lefty is going to tell me that "the smarter better educated people are on the left"! Maybe so ... likely more people with higher degrees are there, but degrees are not the same thing as "smart" in my book. I've met a lot of people with a lot of degrees who apparently wasted a lot of money to be more expensively wrong.

Over on the right you KNOW how brilliant your "brilliance" really was. The building stands, you find oil and can make a profit, you sell enough cars and service them to stay in business, the patient lives. Interestingly, notice how the medical specialists are farther right than just physicians in general. The specialists are more educated about a specific piece of reality -- the heart, the liver, the bones, etc ... they are less abstract even than the physician relative to those parts of reality, thus farther right.

Compare engineers with electrical contractors. For one thing, electrical contractors are real businessmen and of course engineers are more abstract and generally more educated. The more theory / abstract education you get, the more left you go -- especially because "education" today can be obtained without understanding anything about philosophy, theology and history -- studies that tend to make one feel a bit less hubris!

The whole article is a worthy read and it is not long.

Mueller's Three Objectives

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2018/08/a-bad-day-in-court.php

As the efforts of the Deep State, the DNC and the MSM (but I repeat myself thrice) continue, we need to always keep the following paragraph firmly in mind:

As we and others have said many times, what is going on in the courts is mostly theater–unless, of course, you are Paul Manafort or Michael Cohen. President Trump can’t be indicted, so legal niceties are not very material. The Mueller Switch Project has three objectives: 1) furnish House Democrats (assuming they take the majority in November) with ammunition to impeach the President; 2) help the Democrats to win the midterm elections; and 3) make President Trump’s re-election less likely in 2020.
I would have ordered it "Help the Dems win, furnish grounds if so, and 3 if one and two fail" ... it's nice to have the whole appartatus of government, the MSM and your own party working in concert to achieve goals using taxpayer money!

BOistan is a damned partisan territory -- work for, provid donations to, or just over identify with anything not approved by "The Party" (TP-D) and you may well go to jail. We don't have a Gulag (yet), but that is our direction.

Ammo Grrrll To Be Savored

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2018/08/thoughts-from-the-ammo-line-234.php

Just read it ... the war goes on, and most of the folks on the right are too nice to notice it!

I studied that picture of the mockers around Jim Acosta. The snotty little twerp claimed to be “scared” — ha! There was no undercurrent of violence, no brandished bike locks, no arson, only mockery, which these prima donnas hate much worse than violence. The crowd looked perfectly attractive to me. Do you know why Mr. Caputo could even SEE THEIR TEETH? Because they were not cowardly thugs wearing masks, that’s why. But if their teeth WERE less than perfect, for some rich little frat boy political writer to make fun of poor people’s teeth is as unseemly as a group of physicists mocking the intelligence of the mentally handicapped. Not a level playing field, Marky-Marc. You guys pretend to hate “disparity of outcome.”
Will Mr. Caputo’s career be as “kaput” as Roseanne’s or Papa John’s? Get serious!

Rediscovering Values, Jim Wallis

https://www.amazon.com/Rediscovering-Values-Guide-Economic-Recovery/dp/1439183198

The book is subtitled "On Wall Street, Main Street, and Your Street ... as well as "A moral compass for a new economy".

I'm very glad that I waited until 2018 to read this book -- time has already done all the judgement on this book, so I don't need to be as judgemental as Mr Wallis. 2008 was not "the end of the American Economy", although Obama nearly was. We are back to super low unemployment and 4.1% growth rates thanks to Trump.

The first point to be made is this, from page 143;
"My adult life has been committed to the ministry of calling Christians to the message of social justice, which is at the heart of the gospel and the life and ministry of Jesus".
Actually, no ... Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10) ... his kingdom was and more importantly "not of this world". It is ETERNAL and SPIRITUAL, not of dollars and cents! John 18:36.
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
The kingdom of Jim Wallis clearly IS of this world, and his "gospel" ... to the extent it can be identified, is "income inequality" ... although he is apparently a darling of the most elite of the wealthy. On page 81 he talks proudly of speaking at the Davos world economic forum. Davos, the place where in 2017 the top 8 richest men on the planet who in aggregate had more wealth than the bottom half of the people on the planet attended. If the Davos crowd calls you up, you can be pretty sure that they at least "like your cover". When 8 guys have more wealth than half the planet, having Jim come talk is like "MEMO: We care" ... now back to the regularly scheduled amassing of billions.

To the extent that Wallis has "values", they appear to be mostly economic "values'. Certainly he would like people to spend "more time with their familes", but he has not one word to say of the actual moral decline in BOistan that has led to massive divorce, abortion, and even questioning Biblical values as to sexuality and gender. Certainly churches have declined, however the ones that have really declined are the ones that preach what Wallis preaches -- a focus on "social gospel" vs the actual core message of Christ as Savior for ETERNITY. "Social Justice" saves nobody in the eternal way that counts!

Mark 8:36,
"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"

On page 186 he phones in from the Wallis universe and says "... the dominance of the market over all else has literally caused our society to fall over." and "The public sector has not played the necessary role for the last three decades ...". Well, it certainly cost a lot, and this book is ALL about money!

So the government spends 35% of the GDP -- the rest of us get to fight over the remaining 65%. Guess what, we are losing ... government workers are kicking our butts on the "take".

The book veers into farce as Wallis begins to lament about the Demise of Detroit, once the model city for "progressive" America. Detroit died of the same causes as the USSR, N Korea, and Venezuala ... socialist dreams that drove out innovative business. Socialism doesn't work on any scale ... local or national. Wallis or course is a Socialist at heart -- why is it that when the government takes more and more from the productive and buys votes with more and more to people less productive that we end up with less productivity all around? Rules like "subsidize what you want more of, tax what you want less of" don't work for Wallace -- somewhat because he mistakes government for chairity and the church. Christ commanded US -- the church, individual citizens to care for the poor. Christ didn't suggest it be outsourced to Caesar.

Wallis was however ironically prophetic in this book! On page 210 he talks of Nehimiah (the shortest man in the Bible) "restoring the walls" of Jerusalem and "uniting the people with the vision for a city restored" (Make Jerusalem Great Again???). On 210 he quotes the Bible "remember the Lord who is great and awsome, and fight for your kin, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes" ... pretty much like a Trump rally!

On 228 he says "The game feels rigged -- and it is. What people are really feeling is a crisis of democracy in a country that still has the forms of democracy but has lost much of it's substance. So we feel helpless, angry, or both."

Sort of like the feeling 60 million people get when they elect a president and then the Deep State, Media and entire TP ("The Party" TP-D) apparatus spends all it's time working to overturn the will of the people.

In summary, the "social gospel" is a destroyer of both souls and economies. With the benefit of a little time it is easy to see that Wallis completely miscalled the 2008 crash -- he expect more government to be the answer, but it in fact stalled the economy and it was Trump that finally brought us back to over 4% growth. Capitalism creaded Detroit and "progressivism" / "democratic socialism" killed it -- but since Wallis likes those "progressive" thoughts, that CAN'T be true!

No need to read this book -- this blog is more than you need to know and it is certainly old and very tired thinking.

BOistan, Mass Financial Rape

https://www.forbes.com/sites/rebeccalerner/2017/07/13/top-10-richest-counties-in-america-2017/#2aa7518e2ef3

I've referenced this column enough that I decided I needed a post on it. Five of the richest counties in BOistan are less than an hour away from Washington DC.

Whatever you want to call it ... "The State", "The Administrative/Deep State", etc, it is winning. This article lets us know that Federal Employees (OUR EMPLOYEES!) are doing better than employees in the private sector! Especially for those that have lower levels of education -- AND, the benefits are SUPER!
The report also found the government’s benefits superior, by 47 percent on average, with a similar range by educational level. For those with a high school education or less, the government’s benefits package was found to be 93 percent higher; for those with doctorates or professional degrees, benefits were found to be about the same.
Isn't that nice of us to give our government employees 47% better benefits on average, and 93% higher for those who have a High School education or less? Oh, wait, you didn't know? Well OF COURSE you didn't! What have I been trying to tell you for years about "The Party" (TP-D) and it's control of the entire administrative state, government unions being a major cornerstone of it's power, and it's wholly owned US media being it's propaganda arm has you snowed and captive!

It's like the system is RIGGED! Why if someone that might do something about this got elected, the whole Deep / Administrative State would likely go immediately to work to "overturn the will of the people"! (been awhile since the MSM has used THAT phrase!)

Oh wait ... old news!

How Treasonous Trump Operates

https://www.lifezette.com/2018/08/heres-why-trumps-greatest-talent-terrifies-dems-and-baffles-republicans/

Our "balanced" between the left and far left media has nothing but bad to say about Trump. When ideology is all that matters to you, that is not very surprising. The linked column is worth the rather short read -- a couple of quotes;

This was all about Russia. Russia is, basically, a well-armed gas station. Without high profits from the sale of oil and natural gas, Russia’s economy is nothing. And so, with his trade deal with the head of the EU, Trump went right for Russia’s jugular. He said overly nice things to Putin in Helsinki, then went back to Washington and, through his EU deal, stomped on Russia’s throat.
He also stomped on Russia's jugular as he pushed Merkle on the Nord 2 pipeline! Now, on to China ...

But China’s economic jugular vein is their reliance on exports, with the U.S. being their largest customer. Meanwhile, the U.S. exports very little, comparatively, to China. Simply put, they can’t win a trade war with the U.S. We slap big tariffs on all their exports, they respond in kind, and it’s their economy that crashes, not ours.
And they know that. And Trump knows that. He knows what their jugular vein is, and he’s about to stomp on it. Trade wars are bad. People on both sides get hurt. But in the end, it will be China that loses, and it will be China that opens its doors to more U.S. exports, and it will be the U.S. that wins.
I'm pretty sure all our elites know this very well -- and they have been happily screwing American workers to bump up the early return profits on their Asian investments for a long while. The idea that Trump is improving the economy in BOistan at the expense of the Davos crowd is anything but good news to them.

It is in fact TREASON! Treason gainst the "Citizens of the World" in the Davos crowd where the top 8 guys own 50% of the wealth of the planet  (likely more by now) ... and thus he needs to be IMPEACHED!

CNN, Fake Kenyan President

https://www.cnn.com/2015/07/26/politics/obama-speech-kenya/index.html

We know that anyone that claims that BO is Kenyan can't be trusted --
"I'm the first Kenyan-American to be president of the United States. That goes without saying," Obama said.
Naturally, this is taken as an unimportant joke -- kind of like in "Dreams" where he fell on the graves of his father and grandfather and promised to take up their dream of "ending the colonial powers". As Huffpo pointed out in 2012, the fact that his book originally listed his birthplace as Kenya was a "clerical error".  Naturally, Huffpo is completely trustworthy.

The bottom line on BO is that while he occasionally said he was "a citizen of the world", what he really cared about was BO, and turning an ex "colonial power" into BOistan. Who cares where he was born -- he managed to nail the coffin of America firmly shut.

He succeeded, and that is no joke. BOism killed America, not Birtherism.

Simply Jesus, NT Wright

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11531546-simply-jesus

This is a book which attempts to take you back to the time of Jesus using the metaphor of a "perfect storm" ...  with a "Roman Storm" of the new age of emperors who claimed a  godlike designation, thus Augustus Octavian Caesar was referred to "the son of god" (son of Julius Caesar). Rubbing up against this storm was the Jewish storm or in the book, called "high pressure system" of the Jews waiting for the messiah to come and allow them to take their "rightful place" as the empire that ruled the earth.

Thirdly, he talks of the "hurricane" ... God's agenda, which would be his own, not matching either the Roman or Jewish world view, but of course the "irresistible force". On page 56, Wright summarizes the "hurricane" as "He commands his hearers to give up their other dreams and to trust his instead. This at it's simplest is what Jesus is all about. I cover my view of that "simplest" in my old blog ... a stolen from Karl Barth, "Jesus loves me, this I know". That entry also links to "The Divine Conspiracy", a book that covers a good deal of the same ground as this one -- which one is better comes down to personal taste. This one is more historical, "Conspiracy" is more spiritual practice focused.

Being raised a Baptist, it has taken me a long time to realize the critical nature of "amillennialism" meaning we are IN the "millennium" which is a metaphorical / spiritual "1k years", rather than an actual 1k year period in the future believed by the premillennial folks. Redemption to being loved by God is the bedrock of Jesus ministry. The "story" of how this happens follows the "Exodus template" (p64):
  1. Wicked Tyrant  -- Pharaoh / Rome or Herod
  2. Chosen Leader  -- Moses / Jesus
  3. Victory of God  -- Passover / Resurrection
  4. Rescue by Sacrifice -- lamb, blood on doorpost / Jesus shed blood
  5. New life -- Israel Freed / Sins forgiven
  6. God with us -- Cloud, Pillar of Fire, Ark of Covenant / Holy Spirit
  7. Promised Land  -- Palestine / Kingdom of God on Earth
Jesus not only cleansed the physical temple in Jerusalem (throwing out the moneychangers), he BECAME the living temple of God on earth -- he IS the "holiest place". (Chapter 11, p 131). Much like is covered in "The Secular Age", **THIS** ... our earth, HERE AND NOW is "God's Kingdom". It came with Jesus ... p 140. "We can see the material world itself being transformed by the presence and power of Israel's God, the creator."

Acclaiming Jesus as Lord plants a flag that supersedes the flags of the nations, however "free", or "democratic" they may be. It challenges both the tyrants who who think they are in fact "divine", and the "secular democracies" that have effectively become, if not divine, at least ecclesial, that is, communities that are trying to do and be what the church was supposed to do and be, but without recourse to the one who sustains the church's life...
This appears near the end of the book ... the fact that to the extent we allow ourselves to be transformed by the Holy Spirit, we are encouraged to "reign" (through prayer) in God's Kingdom that is present here and now. As we are transformed, we become more aware of the presence of God in everything, and the illusion of matter/material being supreme. All but spirit will pass away, that is truth, even though the material world and our material senses cry out to us that material "stuff" is all there is.

A worthy read.

The Federalist Papers

After being suitably shamed by at least a couple friends for never having read this important work, I am now "A real American" ... all be it sadly one that lives in BOistan because the major bulwark which the authors of the Federalist assumed would keep us free has lost interest in history, culture, and just plain thinking "reasonably hard". I refer of course to "We The People".

At the time Madison, Hamilton and Jay wrote the Federalist, it was published in NEWSPAPERS, and the general reading public was able to read these fairly weighty texts which assume at least a passing familarity with the history of Greece, Rome and Europe. (we will see that in the Federalist 45 quote  later)

At the time these papers were written, "We The People" were better educated in things that matter (history, theology, philosophy, morality, literature, etc), and MUCH more interested in the real work of self government that a REPUBLIC required. They were completely aware that they absolutely did not want "democracy", because they understood it to be simply mob rule -- and they knew WHY!

Here is a famous Madison quote from Federalist 51 on the separation of powers ...

“It may be a reflection on human nature, that such devices [checks and balances] should be necessary to control the abuses of government. But what is government itself, but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. A dependence on the people is, no doubt, the primary control on the government; but experience has taught mankind the necessity of auxiliary precautions.”
Note the dependence on the people as the PRIMARY control on government. Now look at this from 47 -- "The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or may, and whether hereditary, self appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny."

Madison understood the danger of the Administrative / Deep State well in advance of their construction. Who can fire Robert Mueller? The President? Congress? Apparently nobody -- all the powers in a single person, accountable to nobody. Likewise IRS, FBI, CIA, etc. The authors of the Federalist assumed that "We The People" ... (the ones they were writing to), would always be educated in history, etc (listed above), AND have a huge interest in LIMITING the power of the Federal Government. They were wrong.

Here we see another broken assumption from Federalist 45 -- the assumption that the power of the state governments would be retained, and that the states would act as a "check" on the Federal ...

We have seen, in all the examples of ancient and modern confederacies, the strongest tendency continually betraying itself in the members, to despoil the general government of its authorities, with a very ineffectual capacity in the latter to defend itself against the encroachments. Although, in most of these examples, the system has been so dissimilar from that under consideration as greatly to weaken any inference concerning the latter from the fate of the former, yet, as the States will retain, under the proposed Constitution, a very extensive portion of active sovereignty, the inference ought not to be wholly disregarded. In the Achaean league it is probable that the federal head had a degree and species of power, which gave it a considerable likeness to the government framed by the convention. The Lycian Confederacy, as far as its principles and form are transmitted, must have borne a still greater analogy to it. Yet history does not inform us that either of them ever degenerated, or tended to degenerate, into one consolidated government. On the contrary, we know that the ruin of one of them proceeded from the incapacity of the federal authority to prevent the dissensions, and finally the disunion, of the subordinate authorities. These cases are the more worthy of our attention, as the external causes by which the component parts were pressed together were much more numerous and powerful than in our case; and consequently less powerful ligaments within would be sufficient to bind the members to the head, and to each other.
In the feudal system, we have seen a similar propensity exemplified. Notwithstanding the want of proper sympathy in every instance between the local sovereigns and the people, and the sympathy in some instances between the general sovereign and the latter, it usually happened that the local sovereigns prevailed in the rivalship for encroachments. Had no external dangers enforced internal harmony and subordination, and particularly, had the local sovereigns possessed the affections of the people, the great kingdoms in Europe would at this time consist of as many independent princes as there were formerly feudatory barons. The State government will have the advantage of the Federal government, whether we compare them in respect to the immediate dependence of the one on the other; to the weight of personal influence which each side will possess; to the powers respectively vested in them; to the predilection and probable support of the people; to the disposition and faculty of resisting and frustrating the measures of each other. The State governments may be regarded as constituent and essential parts of the federal government; whilst the latter is nowise essential to the operation or organization of the former. Without the intervention of the State legislatures, the President of the United States cannot be elected at all. They must in all cases have a great share in his appointment, and will, perhaps, in most cases, of themselves determine it. The Senate will be elected absolutely and exclusively by the State legislatures.  [destroyed by 17th amendment] Even the House of Representatives, though drawn immediately from the people, will be chosen very much under the influence of that class of men, whose influence over the people obtains for themselves an election into the State legislatures. Thus, each of the principal branches of the federal government will owe its existence more or less to the favor of the State governments, and must consequently feel a dependence, which is much more likely to beget a disposition too obsequious than too overbearing towards them.
On the other side, the component parts of the State governments will in no instance be indebted for their appointment to the direct agency of the federal government, and very little, if at all, to the local influence of its members. The number of individuals employed under the Constitution of the United States will be much smaller than the number employed under the particular States. There will consequently be less of personal influence on the side of the former than of the latter. The members of the legislative, executive, and judiciary departments of thirteen and more States, the justices of peace, officers of militia, ministerial officers of justice, with all the county, corporation, and town officers, for three millions and more of people, intermixed, and having particular acquaintance with every class and circle of people, must exceed, beyond all proportion, both in number and influence, those of every description who will be employed in the administration of the federal system. Compare the members of the three great departments of the thirteen States, excluding from the judiciary department the justices of peace, with the members of the corresponding departments of the single government of the Union; compare the militia officers of three millions of people with the military and marine officers of any establishment which is within the compass of probability, or, I may add, of possibility, and in this view alone, we may pronounce the advantage of the States to be decisive. If the federal government is to have collectors of revenue, the State governments will have theirs also. And as those of the former will be principally on the seacoast, and not very numerous, whilst those of the latter will be spread over the face of the country, and will be very numerous, the advantage in this view also lies on the same side.
It is true, that the Confederacy is to possess, and may exercise, the power of collecting internal as well as external taxes throughout the States; but it is probable that this power will not be resorted to, except for supplemental purposes of revenue; that an option will then be given to the States to supply their quotas by previous collections of their own; and that the eventual collection, under the immediate authority of the Union, will generally be made by the officers, and according to the rules, appointed by the several States. Indeed it is extremely probable, that in other instances, particularly in the organization of the judicial power, the officers of the States will be clothed with the correspondent authority of the Union. Should it happen, however, that separate collectors of internal revenue should be appointed under the federal government, the influence of the whole number would not bear a comparison with that of the multitude of State officers in the opposite scale. Within every district to which a federal collector would be allotted, there would not be less than thirty or forty, or even more, officers of different descriptions, and many of them persons of character and weight, whose influence would lie on the side of the State. The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected.
Today the Federal Government employs over 4 million people. California employs 235 thousand, and CA is the top. Pennselvania, #5 employs 98K. Our Founders certainly never imagined the Leviathan that the Federal Government has become -- as is well covered in "Suicide of the West", they envisioned a limited GOVERNMENT which keeps basic interstate rules and handles internationa affairs and defense. What we have now is an UNlimited STATE which increasingly intrudes on every aspect of personal life. The CO2 that you breath out is controlled  as a "pollutant" by an unelected federal agency -- the EPA.

So the fact of the matter is that the authors of our Constitution clearly erred in providing the Federal Government with vastly excessive power, because they assumed that The People as well as the State Governments would be a far more effective counterbalance to the will to power of the Federal Government than they turned out to be. Sadly, they were bought off with the promise of all the things the Federal Government promised it would "give" them (using their neighbors and future generations money).

The other point that the Federalist Papers make clear is the danger of having a "Bill of Rights".
It has been several times truly remarked, that bills of rights are in their origin, stipulations between kings and their subjects, abridgments of prerogative in favor of privilege, reservations of rights not surrendered to the prince. Such was Magna Charta, obtained by the Barons, sword in hand, from king John. Such were the subsequent confirmations of that charter by subsequent princes. Such was the petition of rightassented to by Charles the First, in the beginning of his reign. Such also was the declaration of right presented by the lords and commons to the prince of Orange in 1688, and afterwards thrown into the form of an act of parliament, called the bill of rights. It is evident, therefore, that according to their primitive signification, they have no application to constitutions professedly founded upon the power of the people, and executed by their immediate representatives and servants. Here, in strictness, the people surrender nothing, and as they retain every thing, they have no need of particular reservations. "We the people of the United States, to secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America." Here is a better recognition of popular rights than volumes of those aphorisms which make the principal figure in several of our state bills of rights, and which would sound much better in a treatise of ethics than in a constitution of government.
But a minute detail of particular rights is certainly far less applicable to a constitution like that under consideration, which is merely intended to regulate the general political interests of the nation, than to a constitution which has the regulation of every species of personal and private concerns. If therefore the loud clamours against the plan of the convention on this score, are well founded, no epithets of reprobation will be too strong for the constitution of this state. But the truth is, that both of them contain all, which in relation to their objects, is reasonably to be desired.
I go further, and affirm that bills of rights, in the sense and in the extent in which they are contended for, are not only unnecessary in the proposed constitution, but would even be dangerous. They would contain various exceptions to powers which are not granted; and on this very account, would afford a colourable pretext to claim more than were granted. For why declare that things shall not be done which there is no power to do? Why for instance, should it be said, that the liberty of the press shall not be restrained, when no power is given by which restrictions may be imposed? I will not contend that such a provision would confer a regulating power; but it is evident that it would furnish, to men disposed to usurp, a plausible pretence for claiming that power. They might urge with a semblance of reason, that the constitution ought not to be charged with the absurdity of providing against the abuse of an authority, which was not given, and that the provision against restraining the liberty of the press afforded a clear implication, that a power to prescribe proper regulations concerning it, was intended to be vested in the national government. This may serve as a specimen of the numerous handles which would be given to the doctrine of constructive powers, by the indulgence of an injudicious zeal for bills of rights.
The Federal Government was never granted any power to restrict the press, so there is no reason to codify a "right" to such a thing at the federal level! The States OTOH **MAY** decide to apply some level of restriction, and as the Constitution was written, the Federal Government would have nothing to say on this. Since we are talking 1st Amendment issues, take the freedom to establish a state church ... something that existed well into the 1800's in the US. If you go and take a look at this article, you can see how prophetic Hamilton was on the Bill of Rights issue.

The bill might be pointless grandstanding, but it's just one of many pointless pieces of grandstanding that signal the revival of nullification as a legal theory in the Obama years, mostly among conservatives who have claimed that states could disregard duly passed federal laws on matters like health care or gun control. (Liberals have indulged too, demanding that the feds not enforce drug laws in states that have legalized marijuana.)
Once the Bill of Rights was established, the Federal Government decided that it was it's job to "guarantee" those "rights" as IT decreed them to be -- powers that the original Constitution never granted to it in the first place. As Hamilton put it so well ...

Even worse, if you are not a member of TP "The Party-D", then you get the wondrous deal where the nullification of federal marjuana laws, immigration laws, and gun rights ( there is still no 50 state carry even though the "right" is in the Bill of Rights) works just fine, but a state can't "infringe" on the created from whole cloth "right" to abortion in any way shape or form. Lovely.

The Federalists gave WAY too much power to the Federal Government and had WAY too much faith in "We the People", as well as the state governments to jealously defend their rights against the ever grasping for power federal behemoth.

There are not an easy read, but I agree with those that chided me, they ARE a very worthy read -- if only to rub it in one more time how much we lost when we lost America for BOistan.

Words, Haidt, Violence

https://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2017/07/why-its-a-bad-idea-to-tell-students-words-are-violence/533970/

Jonathan is "height" not "hate", but I'm old and never tire of the irony -- he is a brilliant scientist that so far just refuses to knuckle under to the rule of "The Party" (TP-D), and thus just keeps stating the obvious very well. He closes with this:

The conflation of words with violence is not a new or progressive idea invented on college campuses in the last two years. It is an ancient and regressive idea. Americans should all be troubled that it is becoming popular again—especially on college campuses, where it least belongs.
As I continue to point out, "progressive" is actually "regressive" ... unlimited government, restrictive speech, fundamentalist shunning of people you disagree with, etc are not "new" in any way at all ... they are very very old. Traditional liberalism and free market capitalism are still "new" (since like 1700), and they are like your house. Without constant attention, they fall aparty. (see "Suicide of the West").

As there is now a relative avalanche of books and articles are pointing out, "progressives" have led us to a very bad place of moral confusion, loss of meaning, broken families, addiction, suicide, and yes ... as this article covers, the certain threat of violence and even some early "shots fired" on our campuses ... the place that ought to MOST respect complete freedom of speech!

The right to provoke, offend, and shock lies at the core of the First Amendment. This is particularly so on college campuses. Intellectual advancement has traditionally progressed through discord and dissent, as a diversity of views ensures that ideas survive because they are correct, not because they are popular. Colleges and universities—sheltered from the currents of popular opinion by tradition, geography, tenure and monetary endowments—have historically fostered that exchange. But that role in our society will not survive if certain points of view may be declared beyond the pale.
As is made clear in "God and Man at Yale" and "The Closing of the American Mind", the left was all for "freedom of speech" as long as it was anti-American typically pro-Communist left wing speech. Back then, they were in the minority, and certainly not in control of any national political party like TP. That has changed now, so their temporary allegiance to "free speech" is over ... the only left wing "value" is POWER ... all others are just tools!

The article is well worth the (short) read -- as nearly anything by Haidt seems to be.
